Question about rear trunk latch.
Ok, my trunk was working fine before. But now when I try to close it I have to slam it really hard with force. I tried oiling it but it doesnt help, anyone have any advice. Looks like its always locked even when the trunk hatch is open.

I've always had to open a door to get the trunk to close with minimum force on my '04. If the doors are closed the trunk will latch but not close completely, I have to press on each corner to get 'er close.

Sounds like the latch is closed with the trunk lid open. Try releasing the latch with the lid up and see if you see it move (use the key fob while standing looking at the latch). Maybe there is a spring broken in the latch......

sometimes only one half pops on my but the entire hatch looks closed, inside each of the small storage compartments is an emergency release try closing hatch and pulling those to see if it frees or losens something. mine occasionally closes funny and thats when i have to use the emergency pull cords.

Opening a door does allow you to close hatch easily. If doors are closed, you need to push down on emblem to get it to close. Ocassionally, a side may need pressed. This is normal.

Hi,
A similiar thing happened to me. I finally discovered what was wrong. The latching part that is attached to the car was loose and lower than it should have been. It was forcing me to have to always push down hard on that particular corner in order for the hatch to catch. It was a simple fix.
Take off a taillight and you will see the whole mechanism. You simply adjust it by tightening up the bolts ( I forget what kind they were, it was a while ago) I adjusted it a few times until it was perfect and the hatch closed easily.
I wish I would have figured this out earlier because on my own particular car, in a fit of frustration, I pushed down so hard that I cracked the hatch. $1250 dollars later all is well again.

Yeah, it's normal. The pressure of having the windows up/doors closed makes it hard to shut the hatch. With a window even slightly cracked it plops right down, no problem.
