Default Scratches on windows

On both my driver and passenger side there are vertical scratches about 3 inches. There actual scratches into the glass, from the outside.

Does anyone else have this issue?

GM's like most other cars have such a tight fit of the rubber to the window that any speck of dirt will cause a scratch on the window. I usually take a blow gun with my compressor and hit the rubber quick when it gets dusty. Sometimes, if your lucky, you can find someone who is able to buff the scratches out of the glass.

Roll the window all the way down.
Get a flathead screwdriver and wrap the head in a towel.
Run the towel between the 2 pieces of window rubber.
Do this once a month when cleaning.
No more scratches.

I've heard of it happening before. Maybe a glass shop can buff it out but you need to find the cause.

Oh man, don't even bring up glass scratching with me!! My brain decided to take a little break and month ago and I took a scotch brite pad to my windshield to get this gummy stuff off. Billions of little scratches!! Went to several glass dealers to see if they could polish them out. No luck, but I think that was primarily because there were so many and so close together. So now I have to buy a new windshield.

If you only have a few and they are not too deep, they have glass polishing kits that you can buy and DIY, or take it to a reputable glass dealer and they can do it. From what I learned is that it is a very time consuming process and most places will not do it because:

A) It does take a long time
B) There is no gurantee that they will come out
C) There will be optical unclarity to the glass

C is probably the biggest reason most will not do it. Your windows gets screwed up because they do have to remove glass to get the scratch out and it becomes a house of mirrors kind of look. The customer then complains and wants the dealer to replace the glass. They dont like to do it....obviously. Good luck and let me know how it work out for you.

Scott
