Default VA emissions inspection and OBD-II code question

I need an inspection and emissions test done on my 97 soon. Does the OBDII test they run just check for emissions related codes? Because I do get the “Service traction control” light every now and then. I restart the car and it goes away for another month or so but I never clear the code. It’s always an “H” code. Will that make my car fail?

Va. doesn't require emissions testing to pass inspection.

We certainly do in Northern Va!!! Actually it's every two years fro emmissions while the "safety inspection" is yearly.

I just went through an emissions in NoVa. From what I could tell, the OBD scan was solely for emissions-related codes.

The thing that surprised me is that there was no "snif test" as in the past. This was the first OBDII car I've run through VA emissions, and the test consisted solely of the code read and a visual check -- nothing up the car's tailpipe. When I asked why no sniffer, the tech said that the probe's not required on OBDII-equipped vehicles under the VA rules.

Any code that would cause an emissions test failure would illuminate the check engine light.

you can still fail IF the fault is still there.you could fail the safety part if the person checking the car is a legend in his own mind.heck it before you go and if it's there, just clear it out

If there is a code that pops up on your dash, you will fail...

If it's like IL, they check current codes and I/M monitors. Any current emission codes that would trigger a MIL light are a failure and anything newer model year 2000 can only have 1 I/M not pass.
