Default Airbag Light Is On

Can anyone tell me why my airbag light is on in my 98Vette? I checked the codes but nothing has come up for it.

The light on the console illuminates when the passenger side airbag is turned off. Look in the glove box. There's a keyed switch in there. Insert your key and turn the airbag on.

'98's didn't come w/ passenger side A/B bypass switches. It's got to be something else.

I looked and I don't believe you can turn it on or off in a 98. There is no place to insert a key.

My air bag light was staying on continuously but I was getting codes. I had to replace the SDM. Approx. $450 and I did the labor myself. Make sure you are not getting some codes.

This happened on my wifes Suburban. Turned out our dog got under the car and chewed the wires to the front sensor ( also found out we had a small radiator leak that driped coolant on the sensor ). I spliced the wires back and the light went out. Might want to check if sensor is loose or if a critter has been nibbling.

Sorry to hear about this. I just went through a nightmare with mine. The airbag light would come on intermittently. I had it to the dealer (under GMPP thankfully) three times in as many weeks. First the clock spring was replaced, then the divers airbag, then finally when it was hard broke, a control module. Sorry, I don't know off hand, but I do not think it was the airbag module. In all fairness to the dealer it was an intermittent problem and hard to track down.

Best of luck with yours.
