Default Bose Speaker Problem

I have a 2000 Corvette with the Bose sound system. Once or twice a day my passenger front speaker makes a popping/crackling noise for about 5 to 10 seconds and then goes away. It happens with the radio on, the CD player on, and even after I turn them off. Does this sound like the amplifier in the speaker is going bad, and if so, can you just replace the amp instead of the whole assembly that contains the 2 speakers ? Thanks.
