Default 1st to 4th Skip Shift Eliminator

Has anyone installed this skip shift eliminator? The GM "great idea" is driving me nuts.....

CAU CAGS 1 to 4 Skip Shift Eliminator for Corvette $19.95

The CAGS 1-to-4 Skip Shift Eliminator eliminates the annoying override 1st-to-4th shift in your 6spd Corvette. Plug protects the open end of the harness from dirt/corrosion. No modifications and easily reversible. Works on all 1997-2006 Corvettes.

Probably most MN6 owners on the Forum !
It prevents the lockout but th elight will still illuminate....
Easy to install, just back onto some ramps and disconnect the old dry pack connector, click the CAGS eliminator into place and click a dummy socket over the old connect to keep it clean...
5 minute job... well worth it

That is correct. GM used this little trick to keep the Corvette and F-Body cars from paying the gas guzzler tax.

Another option is to have it programmed out if and when you re-tune your car. I'm having Dynotech Engineering do this with my C5 while they're retuning after my cam/header system install. This eliminates the light as well.

The question is who hasn't installed it. It was the first thing that went in when I got my car. The skip shift drove me nuts when I test drove the C5. I purchased the eliminator before I took delivery. And was installed a day later.

I had the CAGS mod installed, then took it off. Around town the short block V8 has enough torque to easily go from 1st to 4th gear in stop and go traffic. Saves gas, the clutch and my left knee. If I want to run through the gears I can. And if I'm stuck on the freeway at 10mph I go from 1st to 3rd.

When gas gets to be $4.00/gal it will become more important.

Let me think if it was not for GM's Great idea as you call it, it would cost you a few thousand dollars in Gas Guzzler taxes if you bought the car new. The corvette is one of the only few performance cars that does not pay the tax.

So let me think again $19.95 or $2000 plus

You make the choice

Actually it's more like a $1 or $2000 plus if you're a DIY er like me, I bought the resistors at radio shack for a dollar and put it in myself, voila! Works like a charm!

To tell you the truth - I don't have a CAGS elinimator and CAGS doesn't bother me at all. I think in the almost three years I've owned the car, I've seen it come up only a handful of times. Just because the 1-4 Shift light comes on - that does not mean you have to shift then. Run it up higher in the rpm range and shift when you want....$20 saved and a heckuva lot more fun. Drive it like a perfomance car, not a Cavalier.

I don't think I've seen it more than 20 times myself, doesn't bother me one bit, if it shifts me into 4 it's only because i'm barely pushing it to begin with so I don't really mind the upshift, the V8 pulls along just the same. I've found it's intelligent enough to have never once interupted when I didn't want it to.

My came with one already installed from the previous owner so I never had to deal with the skip shift non-sense.

So you had the CAGS eliminator installed then took it off? Why not just leave it on and short shift/skip gears yourself? At least with the eliminator installed you have the option to drive both ways.

There are pleny of instances when it will come in handy, regardless of how many people say "it's a sports car". Get one, you won't regret it.
