Default does your trunk do this?

I am having problems with my trunk. when i push the trunk button from my key pad i can hear the release but it dont really come up. i have to put my finger in between the trunk and the back panel to lift the trunk open. if im in the car and hit the trunk button, it does the same thing but when i close the door the air pressure inside the car pushes the trunk up like 1"1/2 so it easy to open. i was wondering is that was normal?

Oh i forgot to tell you it is a z06. i have seen abunch of hatches around here and they dont have any problem. they all open enough to just lift.

My hardtop trunk has always done that as well since it was new. I tried applying something to the rubber seal, but it made no difference. I just got used to it that way (along with all the other GM shortcomings in this vehicle).

Common problem for both the Z06 and Vert. Possibly a weak or defective latch spring. The latch spring should exert sufficient force on the catch to push the trunk lid upward enough for you to get your fingers under it. You might try adjusting the latch spring. Look inside the slot in the latch where the catch on trunk lid fits and you should see the wire spring. Good luck!

Do you have one of the trunk liner panels? When mine is in, I have the same problem - always have to pry the trunk lid up from the corner. 2000 A4 vert, so similar configuration. Actually easier to open when the top is up. ??

I pry mine open at the right corner because it pops up a little higher than the left side. Not a problem here.

back out the little rubber bumpers on the 2 outside corners of the deck lid. This will put a little more up pressure on the lid and raise it higher when you pop the lid.

I just take my key and pry up the lid....works great!

Another tip you can try is taking the carpeted panel off the back of the trunk and exposing the entire latch mechanism. Then lubricate the moving parts. Another thing worth trying is to use a small amount of(and I do mean small - a little goes a long way)di-electric grease on the rubber gasket.

My '04 Vert started doing it after 1 year so i pulled the carpet away from the mechanism and sprayed WD40 on the spring and latch and components and haven't had any trouble since...it now pops up like it did when it was new

WD40 (or similar light lubricant) on all the hinge joints and back out the two rubber stops at the rear corners one full turn. After adjusting the rubber stops, gently close the trunk and check panel alignment at the back corners, re-adjust if necessary.

That'll do it, a little oil on the console lid hinges will fix that too.

As noted above, spray WD 40 down into the latch mechanism at the rear of the trunk and it should fix the problem. You'll need to do this any time it begins to get balky about opening.

Don't forget to oil the hinges on either side. Before I oiled the hinges I had to push the lid down all the way shut, now I pull on the latch about halfway down and it falls shut on its own the same way the hood does, don't have to touch the outside of the car. Pops up enough now to easily get it open too.
