Default Not sure about this mod: painted speaker grilles. What's the CF consensus?

I painted my speaker grilles black to clean them up a bit -- the oak was showing a lot of scuffs and had a little bit of rust on them. I love they way they came out -- I used Duplicolor Interior paint in flat black -- but I'm not 100% sure if it's a visual improvement. What do you guys think?

Thanks, guys (and gals!). I think part of what bugs me about it is that the finish actually looks BETTER than some of the factory stuff, and for that reason it's almost out of place.

The more I look at it, though, the more I'm happy with it.

My grills came black from factory. Your mod looks just like mine. I think they turned out very well from the picture. Any issues when you look up close?

I don't think it looks any better or worse than oak. I'll bet people wouldn't know it wasn't stock unless you said something.

Thanks... the deck thing was a whole adventure in itself... lots of cutting, reshaping, sanding, painting, and fitting. Here's a link to the summary of the work involved.

If you search the audio forum you'll finld lots of info on how it's done -- a lot of guys have done some amazing double-din installs.

Looks great. I need to do that same thing. Some rust, dents, etc. Any advice on removing small dents? Great job bud.

Just be careful taking the door panels off so that you don't break any of the little plastic push-pin fasteners. Once you have the door panels off the grilles are a piece of cake to remove -- you just bend a couple tabs and they come right off. A little smooth pressure on the back ought to get them right back into shape.

PS -- I got the instructions on removing the door panels from Vette Essentials webpage.
