Oldest Corvette Club
On July 4th, I posted a comment about The Corvette Club of San Diego as being the oldest continuosly operating club in the US. I was politely flamed by several other forum members. In the last couple of days I have been going through about 40 # of memorabilia I have collected over the last 45 years from various car clubs I have been in. Yeh, I know, I never throw anything away!
Anyway I found the club newsletter from June 1968 that seems to show this club WAS NOT formed until the fall of 1958! So, I have contacted the website e-mail of COCSD and told them what I found. I have now challenged them to provide me with documention to prove their claim. I will await their answer and post it here when, and if, I get one.

Last evening after my posting, I found some more documentation that appears to show the COCSD founding date as June 1958. Right now Corvette Club of America appears to be the oldest, with a couple more being older than COCSD. Boy, are they going to be upset!

Hi Ed, COCSD is still digging for the early data they say they have. I haven't heard from them yet. I'm still at June 1958 as their first meeting. It was held at Acme Chevrolet in National City, CA. Their second meeting was held in the Conference Building in Balboa Park, San Diego, as far as my research indicates. Remember, we're looking for the oldest CONTINOUSLY operating club. That appears to exclude the Corvette Club of America, which, according to COCSD, has not been continous.

We had three members celebrate their 48th year of membership in July, Jack Brabban and Ray and Marie Taylor. Granted that's a couple years short of the 50 years old the club claims to be but maybe contacting them might shed more light on your search for answers.

Greetings,
Welcome to the web site of the world’s first and oldest Corvette Club, the Corvette Club of
America, Inc (CCA). Our founders started the “Corvette Hobby” with their first meeting on July 17, 1956. The Corvette Club of America started with about 25 members and has grown to over 200 members.

Hi rickko, The news letter that you get was started by me and my wife in 1961. It has changed names a couple of times since then. I was president in 1962/63. Jack and Marie are very good friends of mine. Ray is deceased. The 48th year membership date is 1958. They were/are CHARTER members. What I am trying to get from COCSD is any documention on any organized meetings prior to June 1958. So far, nothing. At the 10 year reunion in 1968, attended by Al Carroll, (he was no longer a member, only the guest of honor), he congratulated the club for those ten years. It's funny he would not remember when HE founded the club. I have the newsletters from June 1968 with an article from him, and articles in the July 1968 issue about the TENTH reunion. I attended the 35th reunion in 1993, again 1993 - 35 = 1958.
Several other poster's have chimed in with founding dates and several appear to be older.
I am compiling a list of these early clubs

I was just overlooking a membership application for Corvettes of Southern California (CSC). It says they were founded in 1956 by six Corvette owners. By October 1957, the club was incorporated in the State of California as a non profit organization.
