Your proly running 89 octaine? Mine does the sme thing when it's cold. It's spark knock. Anti-spark hasn't kicked in yet, soon as it does, it goes away. Try a little higher octaine. It's no big deal, remember your at 10:1 or 10.5:1 compression requireing more "kick in the azz" fuel.

I was under the impression it was piston slap as well...most of the guys with this have cured it with different oil filters such as the K&N unit...for what reasons I don't know how it worked...but they reported the results...

FWIW- I heard this on a friends 01 and he always ran 93 Octane fuel...put in a K&N filter and it was greatly reduced...

Piston slap- sounds like a slight little hammer tapping on the block, even when at idle.
Spark knock- sounds like some pocket change in a coffee can if you were to jiggle it around, but mostly when under acceleration.

Actually.... Even high octane cheap gas can cause problems like fuel sensor failures.. I learned the hard way.

If you believe the Bullchit on that site then you deserve to get "piston slapped" in your faces. The douche bags that made that crap up are morons who have never been around these motors and just like to b!tch about stupid crap.

So you're saying that the wear on the piston skirt and cylinder walls looked normal to you? I wouldn't expect that from a 217,000 mile engine.

Which pictures are you referring to??? This site is from some idiotic moron who knows nothing about these motors. I challenge anybody to show PROOF of any GM LSx motor failure that is remotely related to "piston slap". So far no body has ever been ever to meet this challenge and I seriously doubt anyvody ever will. I have been working around these motors for the 9 years they have been out and I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE FAIL FOR ANY REASON REMOTELY RELATED TO THIS SO CALLED B/S PISTON SLAP! I'll be sitting here enjoying the best series of engines GM has ever built while some of you are complaining about useless B/S.
