run flats are the weak link
hitting the corners i feel the car has so much more but it slides. What is a good alternative to goodyear run flats, but keep the run flat option? I heard there are new compounds now for a softer compound run flat, that true?

A lot of folks have purchased Michilin Pilot Zero Pressure (ZP) runflats and have nothing but good things to say about them. I still have my OEM Good Year RF tires but, will probably go w/ the Michilin ZP's when I need new tires...

Many dump the runflats and go with a regualr tire... just carry a 12v air compressor and a tire plug kit...
Some of the leading regular tire chices are.
Michelin Pilot sport 2
Goodyear GS_D3
BFG Kd's
Kumho MX

I'm running the Michelin Pilot Sport 2. The difference in handling, roise noise, etc is amazing.

I run Nitto RII's (R-compound tires) on the street. Sweet! But then the new weak link will be the suspension. No matter what you upgrade, there will always be a weak link. For me it is the driver!

I just had the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 put on my car.... night and day difference. Better ride, handling and much quiter than the run craps. Ordered them through the Tire Rack. They also have a small compressor/sealant kit on there for around $80. The sealant is also suppose to be sensor safe. Hope I don't have to find out,, but better than not having it...

If you read the book "All Corvettes Are Red" you will see that tires were a huge issue in the development of the C5. GM wanted a spare in all Corvettes, the Corvette team did not want the weight or space loss,so they got Goodyear to develop these tires on Goodyear's nickel just for the C5 to get around the issue. They knew it was a compromise.

I have gone sidewise twice on run flats around hairpins, they are unforgiving, you get no warning.

Ditto the Goodyear GS-D3s and the TireRack Conti pump/sealant kit. The difference is unbelievable, no noise, no more wetting the pants on hi-g turns with bumps as you skitter out towards the gravel, and a noticably smooooth ride (for a C5).
Go for it, now....

I've had the GS-D3's on for about 3K miles now and love 'em
Of course, I've managed to pick up a nail in the right rear already . But the plug kit, and compressor, I bought worked great! My biggest concern is that the tire goes flat with the pressure sensor on the "bottom" and gets ruined
02Vert, I do believe that there are newer sealent kits that don't harm the sensors, but I personally wouldn't use it. Like I said, the plug kit and compressor worked fine for me.
