Is the new C6 Corvette a all new design or is it riding on the C5 platform?

The C6 is something like 70 to 80 percent new design. The other remaining 20 to 30 percent is still C5.

I don't mean to offend anyone here, but I was directed to this thread by a C5er.

Here's my take:
We've been banging this one around since before the C6 came out, and it has been out for three model years. Let it go, guys. It is what GM says it is. They're the ones who came up with the "C" thing in the first place.
I'll see ya.

^OK, well it was also members of the GM development team that referred to it as the "C5 and a half." Yes, its a new platform. But it's not nearly as much of a departure as C4->C5 was.

Sir, we've never met but I see you own a C6,

We're not putting down any C6 drivers, we're simply trying to point out that the C6 is basically an evolution or upgrade to the C5 and may not have warranted being considered a new generation. The hydroformed frame is basically the same, as is the design of the driveline, fuel tanks, subframe, even the LS2 is basically a tweaked and bored out LS1.

I would also like to point out that your avatar may be offensive to small children who might be reading this forum.

I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I meant to say, "I don't mean to offend anyone here, except Alex, but I was directed to this thread by a C5er."

Even if everything you say is 100% true, so what? It's a name. They call it the C6. So what? They could call it, "PDP1170" if they want to. It's their car. It's a marketing designation. That's all.

Did you know that the 1970 Chevelle SS 396 actually had a 402 cid engine? It didn't have SS 402 badges. It had SS 396 badges. It was done for marketing reasons.

They can call it anything they want, and I can't believe I've wasted so many hearbeats arguing with you about it, you ball breaking little twerp.

. . . and another thing. I'm no expert, but I've read that the 1968 Corvette had the same engine and chassis as the 1967. What changed was the body and the interior. So, using your logic, Mr 1217 who I never met, a C3 is a C2.5, which makes the C4 a C3.5, but the 1984 had the same engine as a 1982, which really makes it a C3.2, which makes your car a C4.2, which makes mine a C4.875.

Now are you happy?

Have we met? Do I know you?

Oh, yes. Now I remember why I traded in my C5 - because of people like you.

If you traded a car based on the words/thoughts/attitudes of others, you've got issues.

The pizzing matches that break out on this forum never cease to amaze me. We're all Vette enthusiasts, are we not?

BTW-I have NO problem with your avatar.

I wouldn't go that far, maybe C5.4, I could live with that. As for the 1968 C3, the frame was different, body and interior totally different and although engines were carried over, they would change as the C3 developed, making for a very different vehicle from the midyears.

The scary thing is that this logic actually holds some water...

Issues? Of course I have issues!!

And if you can't tell a couple of very good freinds breaking each others chops when uyou see it, then I'm not the only one with issues.

It's as much a C6 as a 68 is a C3. That was basically a new body on the same old frame, etc., yet it is almost universally considered the start of a new generation. Even the classic 350ci engine that came with it was just a stroked 327. Get over it, we now own the last generation vette, not the current generation.

BTW - I'm all for offending little children, as they shouldn't be on this forum. The little sneaks might get the idea that they deserve a vette, and steal mine.
