Radar detector power interface with the rear view mirror
Does anyone have information regarding how a radar dector can be wired into the rear view mirror power? I just want to get rid of that ugly wire haning down all the time? Thanks

do a search - ther's a forum member that sells a small wire harness that connects from your mirror to the detector - I've got it, it works great but I can't find the info exactly how I ordered it.

This sounds like what I was hoping for. I would like a version that connectes to the existing connectors and does not cut into the existing wire insulation.

That's what the Invisicord does - it just plugs into the back of the existing connector. You don't cut any wires, just plug two pins into the back of the mirror connector. 2 minute install. Check the website out. The instructions are there.

Be forewarned - if you don't use a permanent mounting bracket - just the suction cups - your detector will come off the windshield at some point.
When it does, the tiny wires attached to the pin leads will break. I've gone through two Invisicords. This is not the fault of the Invisicord guys - the wire gauge is the gauge necessary to plug into the detector. But it's not designed to take the shock of the detector falling even 8-12 inches.
If you use Inivisicord, and it's the best way to go, I'm ordering number 3, use a permanent mount for your detector so it doesn't fall, stress the pins and break the wires.
Great Lakes makes one that hangs it off the bottom of the mirror.
Vettemods makes one that attaches to the visor retainer screw. Both look like good options.
Personally, I'm getting some silicone cement and just gluing the Escort factory mount to the windshield. I'll just take a razor blade to it when I sell the car.

I just received my Invisicord this past week. Best $15 you can spend. What an easy install (just push the leads into the harness on the mirror- takes 30 seconds or less). Works like a charm! No wire flapping in the wind!

Or this works as well. It's what I did. Second pic down.

I've had my Valentine for almost 5 years, and the suction cups have never failed. Cold weather, hot weather, occasional removal to put in another car.
Maybe I'm just lucky.

use a drop of glycerine instead of saliva or water
will not evaporate, is waterbased, and bacteriostatic so no smell or mess from saliva.
What I did with my new cobra (has the gps/red camera light stuff like all the rest at $165.00) is machine a small aluminum attachment with a gimbal mount and I hide all but the LCD screen.
The cobra with the 1.5" LCD screen looks cool, cool, cool. I have it somewhat on an agle behind the rear view mirror so you cannot see it at all from the passenger side or even with the top off, it is not obvious.
I will submit a picture later.
btw, I would favorably compare this cobra to the Val-1 or the Escort that so many think so much of.
check this out: COBRA XRS-9970G 15 Band Camera Laser Radar Detector
You can buy these all day long at $209, with some selling same model for $150 new on ebay.
