Default C5 theft rate

Anyone know if the theft rate for C5's has reduced substantially or not since the C6 has been here for a couple years? I was told by an insurance guy that most Corvette thefts were done for illegally exporting the cars and maybe joy riding rather than parts like most cars. It would be logical to think that people would want the most current "stolen" model.

I had a new Harley Davidson stolen while my spouse and I dined on a burger and fries. The perps were very well rehearsed for they did the grab in a matter of minutes and no one saw a thing?? Can you spell "accomplice"? Never proved anything and bike never did turn up. what I find interesting is that the insurance folk and police suggested that the bike was stolen so it could be shipped overseas or broken down for parts. Does that sound familiar? Perhaps it is true? I'll be interested to see what the other forum members think.

I think the vast majority of 'regular' people (including joy-riders) still couldn't tell the difference between c5 and c6; i'm guessing they just see shiny corvette and lump 'em both into category of 'shiny vette'

and away they go...

I don't know about the theft rate... I was under the impression that it's low because of the high profile of the car, parts aren't as in demand/or as $$$ as imports, etc.

Besides, a lot of the suspension parts of the C5 and C6 are interchangeable... not that different. The have some of the same part #'s even...

I have insurance, Lo-Jack, a pager alarm.. and if all else fails, I'll take my pick of one of these...

The theft rate among C5s here in Mass is very low. The Corvette is among the bottom of the list every year.

Dave, nice collection!! I'll post pics of mine later (Glock 23C w/3lb trigger, trijicon sights, lasermax, etc.; Benelli M4 LE; and Franchi Renaissance Elite; purchasing a Stag LH 6.8mm AR soon)... If I were LE, I'd be buying ALL KINDS of fancier toys, like a Glock 18, Barrett M107CQ, and M4A1, etc., etc..

Don't need to be an LEO, just live in a state that allows ownership of Title II weapons and submit the proper forms to BATF.

I'm quite familiar with the law... Unless I'm going to become a dealer and solicit LE letters requesting sample weapons which I could then use to purchase recently manufactured items such as M4A1 (post-ban), MP5 (very few pre-ban), and M240G (post-ban), just to name a few of the toys I'd like to have, I can't do it. Since I don't really plan to be in the arms dealing business now that I'm staying in the military, doing so for the purpose of my own toy collection would be illegal....

True, all the weapons would have to have been made in 1986 or sooner to own as an individual. An M16A2 receiver is easy to make into an M4 and there are enough MP5 clones around if you want to pay $15K or more!
