Default GM Parts drilled/slotted rotors

Any one have the drilled/slotted rotors from GM Parts Direct. I would assume they are not coated. only $53 each.

Had them on my 99 FRC not bad, but the hats rust. The remedy was Ecklers rotor hubs $150 for a set of four.

If you like the rotors and their not coated, some decent paint on the hats before you install them will keep them looking good. I brushed high gloss black Tremclad on the hats on my 01 a couple of years ago, still looking nice and crisp!!

New rotors might have some anti-rust coating on them, wash the hats with acetone or brake cleaner before painting them.

Go with the Napa's (non slot/drills). No better buy out there.

$26 for the fronts and $24 for the rears...

Paint and go!

What paint did you use? HT exhaust? Primer?

I use the 1200 (or 1600 if you can find it) Dupli-Color. Available at AutoZone or any of those stores. No primer needed, just a few coats (not too heavy).

Some of the exhaust spray stuff needs to be baked on. Great stuff, but the wife doesn't love me enough to let me bake the rotors in HER kitchen...

Thanks. I'm ready to pull the trigger on new rotors and pads on the '99. I like the looks of the D/DS but I'm learning that even during street use they'll make a little 'noise'. There are so many opinions on rotors and pads it could cause a guy to drink. Or drink more! Good move leaving the kitchen to making cakes and pies. Baking rotors in the oven is bound to get any woman hot. That's with a small "h".

I bought the AC Delco Performance drilled/slotted rotors from Gene at GMPartsHouse.com. for $259.00 shipped. I used Dupli-Color 500 degree Engine Enamel "Clear" in a spray can from Auto Zone. Sprayed both sides of the rotors and wiped the brake pad sweep area with a lacquer thinner campened rag. No problems so far.

Here's a link showing replacement of rotors w/Delco drilled and slotted rotors. The hats are painted w/hi-temp clear. After nearly two years they still look great. Paint has held up well.

Good luck!

Thanks that was very informative, I do drive in the rain occasionally, just to remind my car it is a car. i am curious as to how they will hold up. Forgive my ignorance but will the zinc coated rotors rust in the pad path. i would think after some use they would.

When you wash the car the firepath gets an instant rust haze. But before I put it back in the garage, I coast backwards to the sidewalk and apply the brakes, drive foward into the garage with the brakes applied and No Rust!

Zinc coated rotors look the nicest. No muss, no fuss!

But the washed zinc won't last as long as paint that is properly applied.
