Default When can you NOT get an extended warranty?

As a 2nd owner (really 3rd if you count the non GM dealer who took the car in trade) of an 03 with 33,000 miles, can an extended warranty be purchased now that the std. GM warranty has time expired?

I saw a thread where someone bought a AAA extended warranty. What about that?

You won't be able to get a GMPP, but should be able to get an aftermarket. Hopefully someone will chime in. Bump for you.

If you are talking about GMPP, you must be under current warranty (GM or GMPP) with at least 90 days remaining and 3000 miles or more. One day late or 1 mile over and you can not get a GMPP warranty.

And that is the Gospel truth!

I just bought a GM Major Guard Plan for my 04 with only 22 days left on the original warranty. No problem at all. Was told as long as it is still under warranty it wasn't a problem. Well worth it!

This is a somewhat odd thing that GM does. I wonder why they don't do the 90 day 1000 mile (or something similar) deal like the aftermarket warranties do? Seems like they are missing a large section of the market by doing this. Then again my local dealer pushes an aftermarket warranty instead of the GMPP (probably more profit for them). I think the GMPP is the way to go if available. Good luck, ask a lot of questions, get the answers in writing and be careful. There are some aftermarket warranty companies that suck!

After the 3Year/36,000 mile warranty is up. If you go past 36,000 miles, you can't purchase a warranty. If you mod the engine, your warranty gets voided.

Default One way to get the GMPP after 36 months

If you purchase the car from a Chevy dealer, that dealer can sell you the GMPP Major Guard.

I don't know why I keep hearing this. I bought a GMPP Major Guard warranty with a $50 deductible last year. It was for my 99 with 40,000+ miles. It wasn't under any other warranty either

It seems to vary by what the dealer is willing to do. I bought my '03 in Feb 2006 w/17k miles. I bought it from a shop in town that specializes in used Corvettes. I took it to a Chevy dealer, they did the same inspection as they would do if they were selling the car, and sold me a GMPP.

Best advice would be to call the Chevy dealers in your area and see if any of them will inspect the car and sell you a GMPP.

www.gmprotectionplan.com

Read the FAQ and the description of the different levels of GMPP plans.

Here goes again

As posted yesterday:

You can purchase a GMPP any time before the 3 years or 36K is up
You must purchase a GMPP extension of the original GMPP 3 months and 3000 miles before expiration of the original GMPP.

You can purchase a GMPP on a used Corvette out of warranty IF YOU PURCHASE IT THE DAY OF PURCHASE FROM THAT GM DEALER, in other words if I sold you a 2000,2001, 2002, 2003 Corvette, Impala, etc and it has 44K on it I can sell you a GMPP for that car as long as I have done the GMPP inspection per their rules and it passes the inspection. The person that took their 99 in and then bought a warranty should not of been able to purchase a GMPP but that dealer will not be doing that very long.

Hope this helps everyone, if not just drop me an email to gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet. com and I will answer your question on a one on one basis.

I did not see Jason answer any questions in this post-inside joke per another post

Dennis - Thanks for the first hand info. I think I will bypass any "after market" warranty companies if I can't get a GMPP and just pay the piper if anything goes wrong.

That seems to be correct. I just purchased a 02 with 15,500 miles on it. It was at a Chevy dealer used car lot. I was offered a GMPP at the time of purchase. So I took it, 2 yr 24K miles. I figure when that one is about to expire I'll contact Ken or Dennis for another GMPP on it...

Not true! I purchased my 2000 vert in April 2006 from a Chevy dealer in Chicago. I inquired about a GMPP extended warranty, they told me because the care had less than 12,000 miles on it, it was eligible for the GMPP warranty, 36 month/36,000 miles, which I purchased on the spot!

You can buy it if you are:

under the factory 3/36k.
-or-
At the point of sale for a car outside of the factory 3/36k warranty.

If you buy the car used and DO NOT buy the coverage then, the dealer CAN NOT sell it to you after point of sale. This is for the factory backed coverage that dealers sell. 3rd party coverage MAY be available through AAA, your insurance company, or other 3rd party service agreement providers.

Except that I, and others on the forum, have done just that. So it does happen.
