Default Tight steering, Abs and traction control light on

The car is an 04. Im looking at purchasing it for a fair price. But would like some opinions on what the issue could be before I pull the trigger. She says steering is harder than normal and both lights are on. Thanks in advance for the help

Start by pulling the codes. Any number of other things can trigger the abs/tc lights. The good news for your year, the abs module is repairable.

Do you think it's related to why the steering is tight ?

You mention “she says the steering is harder than normal “.. Does this mean you have not driven the car yourself?
Is it low on power steering fluid? Has “she” noticed this just recently? You mentioned “fair” price. Is this because you know the current owner and want to pay a reasonable price or just do not want to overpay for the car?

As mentioned check the codes, which is easy to do on a C5 with the built in system. You can find the procedure to accomplish this here on the forum along with what the codes are telling you. Then take it for a drive and decide if it feels like a problem to you. ABS problems can usually be repaired for a reasonable price but some may be a bit more of a problem.

Also look at the sticky notes on the forum on issues to look for on buying a C5. And be aware some of the 04s have the potential for an issue with the gas tank that can get pricey to repair.

All the information you need is here on the forum. Just do your due diligence before making a decision.

I haven't driven the car. It's 3 hours from me so I'm just going off of what she said. She got the car from trade and doesn't seem to want it.
From what I know ( I could be wrong) the late 03s could have the same issue with the fuel tank correct? And from my understanding the issue is only noticable when the tank is over 3/4 full emitting a fuel smell due to a leak at the top . Correct?

Magnasteer is controlled by the EBTCM, so possibly. Check the trouble codes and come back.

Yes. Half way through 03 they went to the C6 style fuel system and some people experience cracked fuel tanks.

I heard you can't fix the c5 fuel tank issue with a C6 tank ? Is that not true ? Or what makes it expensive

I have not heard it is an issue with the 03 models., On the 04s if the VIN is between 45110258 and 45125500 it has the potential for being an issue.

Good information with those VIN break points.
