Default CB Antenna Mounting?

I've searched the forum for cb, cb antenna, and "cb antenna" and come up empty.

How do you mount your CB antenna? Obviously you can't use a magnetic mount.

I've seen the mount that fits behind the license plate. Where does a person get one of those?

Any other suggestions?

TIA

Most guys fit sat antennas in the rear space inside the fender. Take out the rear T/S light on the right and you'll see the options.

I thought CB antennas needed some height. Will they work well from inside the bodywork?

not ideal for location, but the body is fiberglass...should work though.

Look at some of the supporting vendors like ZIP, MID-AMERICA, PFYC or CORVETTE CENTRAL...one of them has a CB mount, but I can't recall which one.
I'd think a CB antenna would need as much height as possible to give optimal reception, just like a regular radio mast.
Go to the main menu, scroll down to the forum dedicated to stereo discussions, one of them might know.

Hi Craig -

I have the license plate mount on my Z - and I can get out 3-4 miles with my Midland handheld unit and the setup I have.

Here is the license plate mount kit:

http://www.rivercitycorvettes.org/harris_mfg.htm

Here is a link to some alternatives -

http://www.koolkatcorvetteproducts.com/photo.html

Here is the NGP Firestick antenna that I have - making a license plate mount is an easy task - mine is made of plexiglas.

best regards -

Good Point. If you need the full size whip antenna it could be a tight fit

I don't have one but think this would be a good solution

Designed specifically for the C4 and C5 Corvettes, this CB Antenna System matches both the beauty and performance of your Corvette. The tunable tip antenna permits transmission and reception from farther distances, while the quick disconnect system allows you to easily detach the antenna any time. This state of the art No Ground Plane (NGP) kit includes: NGP coax cable, NGP 3' antenna mast, and low profile polished stainless steel mounting plate. The antenna mast is available in red, white, or black. White may be painted to match your Corvette exterior. All units use existing license plate mounting holes with some drilling required. Arrives with detailed installation instructions. Please specify antenna mast color.

Available from Mid America.

10-4 good buddy I used to own a CB when I was living in England and found it useful on the M25 but don't know how useful a CB would be here!

I also wonder how many people here will take any notice of the new law here in CA? Nobody seems to take any notice of the Stop signs or the 4-Way Stops here so why would they put their cell phones down I live by the beach and the signs are known as "Stoptional" signs!

I thought that in California, STOP was an acronym for

Slight
Tap
On
Pedal

Know what you mean. Used to frighten the life out of me threading my way through the Soccer Moms on the phone every morning down Summerlin Parkway in Vegas.

Not a problem nowadays. Radio signals don't make it as far as Lincolnshire

Craig:

This is the set-up I have on my 02 vert. http://www.rivercitycorvettes.org/harris_mfg.htm
I was a member of River City before I moved up here. It is very well made and hides the cable. Give me a call and you can look at mine.

I did see that one. I was hoping for something a little cheaper. The River City mount kit at $80 is probably what I'll go for.

I wouldn't think it would be hard to fabricate the bracket once you decide where to mount it. Any CB antenna should work on your DIY bracket.

I've used the koolkat antenna, which sits inside the car and hides your antenna farm from John Law.

I have this one also and it works great - no need to hang one outside the car!!
