Default Trunk Lid

I'm new to the C5 group with my 02 Z06 I recently picked up. My question is: Should the trunk lid pop up when the trunk release is hit? Mine barely opens about a 1/4 inch and I need to get my fingers under it. Should it pop wide open?

Hinges seem to work OK, I'm thinking the strut(s) are weak but the car only has 21K on it.
Thanks

Try a little wd-40 to the hinges and struts.
Some people have added a spring to one of the screws on the striker area. See if a search shows up.

One of our posters here has made up a kit to overcome the problem. It is a spring that mounts near the latching mechanism. It works great and is really cheap. Do a search on trunk popper..... It rakes about a minute to install,

Default I have an 03 Zed06

I have an 03 Zed06, it is the exact same way....I think its safe to say that this is completely normal. Mine only has 15,000 and does the same thing...Here is part of the reason it does this: The corvette's cabin is extremely air tight so it doesn't really just float open like some of GM's other cars or like most other company's cars.
I like this feature it makes me believe they actually put some thought into the design of this car

Plain and simple don't waste your money on struts its normal.

Oh yeah and I would'nt use any Wd-40 because it will actually cause the struts to wear/dry out faster. Use silicone spray if you must...I stay away from this stuff unless it is truely necessary

I am curious about this spring due to the fact you already have to slam the deck lid to get it to shut. Seems pointless unless you cannot get your fingers underneath the deck lid....

As stated above, if you don't want to add the spring, apply WD-40 to all the hinge points. Another adjustment is the two rubber strikers at each rear corner of the trunk. Turn these counter-clockwise 1/2 turn at a time to raise them slightly. Don't go too far or they will throw the alignment of the trunk off.

White lithium grease in a spray can sprayed in/on joints and latches worked for me

What happens is the latching assembly becomes loose and drops. Your trunk opens less and less. I guess the trunk popper is a band aid. If you remove the rear license assembly you can reach the 10mm nuts with an extension and tighten and adjust to factory height.

The problem is not closing the trunk but opening it. It doesn't matter if the cabin is air tight when you open the trunk (although you can unlock your trunk then slam your car door shut with windows up to help the lid pop up).

I have also installed the trunk popper spring and think it is a great product.
