Lots of variables
If your repainting the same color its much cheaper not having to take the car apart and put it back together... but if your painting a completely different color. That will bring the cost up 2 to three grand... then their is the paint cost.. paint is anywhere from 50 dollars a quart, to 6,000 a quart.. there are places around here that will paint a car for 299.00.. but a guaranteed for life Paint job is anywhere from 10K to 20 K using any factory color from any manufacturer.. an average good paint job around here is 4 to 5 grand... anything less than that would not be something to put on a corvette... you dont want your car used as a teaching school at Vo-tec or a paint shop that uses Vo-tec students. I'm not putting down kids with ambition or even gifted kids, but I would want them working on My car,..Kids just dont have the focus that a professional would have, kids have too much testosterone to burn off.

ET is on target, as usual.
dave from Texas - where are you located? If in the DFW area, try Stewarts (Dallas off I 635)

Indeed, Earl Schieb is way low end, they cut many corners in their process and you get some "orange peel" when looking up close, but for the small money spent, I was actually surprised how my old '85 300ZX turned out... Oh, I should note before I gave them the car, I did a little bit of prep work (e.g. sanding) that I knew they would not do...

I was always joking around about Earl, but for $299.00
that looks to be a pretty good job.

Back in the mid 60s, Earl was painting complete cars for $29.00. Infact, it may have been $19.99. I did the prep work myself (Bondo) on my old Triumph TR3. Earl painted both fenders and the door on the passenger side for $7.00.

If you do a majority of the prep work (AKA wet sanding and pulling the panels off) you will save a lot of $$ but it will cost you a lot of time in return.

Yep, in the mid 60's my dad and I prepped my 59 Chevy 2 door and took it to Earl Schieb's for $19.95 and an extra $5 to paint inside of the chrome piece on the sides white. It turned out really nice.
