I wouldn't go so far as to compare the C7 to a Lotus. Unfortunately, GM has taken the Corvette as far as the law will allow them to take it without turning it into a NASCAR (which can't be run on public roads, of course). For those that mod, 350 HP or 700 HP you are going to mod it anyway for more HP so what's the big hubbub?
How much HP do you really need?

I don't think making the car "like a Lotus" is bad thing. Check this link out:

Why are they trying regulate to force gm to make the corvette 'greener'??? My last 'outing' with my coupe, I went 220 miles total. Used 10.3 gallons. Thats 20+ mpg! This was also 100+ miles of neither highway nor city... 100+ of those miles were down shifting 4k+RPM try to push the peddle through the floor miles... the other 120 were highway/city semi-normal driving. Couple small burnouts and a little spirited driving.
I love how people @ the office and in general make comments at lunch and such towards me about gas mileage and gas prices etc, while the soccer moms sitting next to me who drive their big monster utility vehicles that get 14 MPG when they drive little Tommy and Susan to the local field and then have to be sure to hit the gas station on their way home look at me and knod their heads as I decide if its worth firing back some facts about... Screw it I'll just smile and take another bite of my shlt sandwich!
not sure where that came from sorry about that.

I kind of like the Lotus. Don't really want the Vette to turn into one. But I have a Vette partly because it offers more bang for the buck. Might one day own a Lotus when the used market comes down to my liking.
Considered an NSX and Lotus along with the Vette. Never drove a Lotus, did drive the NSX. NSX was darned nice, but not as fun to me as the C5.

Wishful thinking on your part. However, I think GM's course of action is not all that bad. Improving the weight-to-horsepower ratio is the best way to keep the Corvette "fast out of the box" and in compliance with Federal regulations. Just a reality us enthusiats have to eventually deal with

Its just not that simple to keep corvette the same and try to make everything else 45 mpg! Its not going to be the same. even with better hp to weight it, It wont have that raw power. the Cafe will ruin alot of sports cars, I dont believe it when ppl say its going to be okay and nothing is going to change. You ppl are hoping for too much. Gas is already ridiculous, it's throwing everything out of order. It's not getting any better and I don't see it getting any better. I think GM knew this was going to happen and thats why they built the ZR1 before
