Default Winter Storage & Dryer Sheets... NEVER AGAIN!!!

Over the last few years I've been storing the Vette in the garage, covered and with charcoal sitting on the floor under the engine (heard charcoal was a rodent/mice deterent). Of course I do all the other items like Stabil in the gas, battery tender connected, tire pressure at max PSI, etc...

This year I saw a post that said to also place dryer sheets under the hood in random locations in the engine bay... so I did it.

Today, weather was above freezing and I decided to take a peek under the hood for the first time since Jan 2nd... what do I find. Acorn shells and mice you know what (trying to adhere to forum rules ) all over the top of the battery like they had been sitting on top of my battery tender enjoying a meal and warming themselves

Long story short... dryer sheets are gone and I'll never do this again. Lesson learned.

That's why I put bars of Irish Spring soap inside my car and in the engine compartment. I've used it for years and never had a problem, but I've probably just jinxed myself. I'll let you know if I find soap bubbles in my car in April.

In the engine compartment?

I was thinking about that but haven't tried yet... don't really want to attract them. Already have traps strategically placed in the garage floor

I'm sorry for the engine compartment problems. Hope you had some kind of desiccant in the inside - and that the varmints weren't in there.

And they smell good, too!

On a serious note, I myself (and friends that did have rodent activity) use the sonic rodent deterrents that plug into the wall outlets. They appear to work on more than rodents (Bees and wasps don't survive either).

No problems on the interior... checked it out an did not see any evidence of my new "friends". Looks like their visit was to the engine compartment only.

Dryer sheets are for the interior, a feline is for the exterior

Sadly, our beloved C5's make great mice habitat's... especially when they're not being driven. Being so low to the ground must be a factor in this.

Ya know...I'm a Florida native and I've been DIEING to move north (like N. GA or Carolinas) for a while but when I read things like this it makes me start re-thinking that move. I have NO idea what it is to winterize your car and from the sound of it I don't want to know either.

Best to you and your rodent problem but I tell you what....a small dish of antifreeze strategically placed will usually solve your problem. It smells sweet to them and they will def. CHECK OUT after a drink or two.
