Default If only he knew...

So a little background before I relay the story. I am a very fortunate 22 yr old that got a great deal on buying a C5 from my Brother. I am about to graduate college in May, which is when I really get to pay the thing off. I try not to be the college boy, Ive got a badass car, *****, corvette tool that everyone thinks from first impressions ( Ive gotten it all). Honestly, it draws a little too much attention for my personality but screw em, I bought the car because performance for the price cant be beat. I keep the fast stuff mostly to the track, except for when a couple of ladies are in the passenger seat... On to the good stuff.

So its closing time at the dance hall and everyone is getting kicked out. After the usual flirting with the drunk girl shenanigans in the parking lot I get in my car and begin to leave. I have my windows down cuz its a beautiful Texas night and Im crawling through the parking lot so as to not hit any dumb drunk people that happen to stumble out from between some cars. All of a sudden, as Im looking out my passenger window, I get a "Woooo I have a 50,000 dollar car" yelled in my ear very sarcastically. I dunno what caused this. Maybe he was a little inebriated himself, or maybe he was jealous because I was getting some cat calls from the ladies that I just gotten finished flirting with. The great thing about the story is:

If only he knew I only payed 19 for it...

I love my car...

I hear ya, I still get the... "how the hell did you get that?" remarks. Sometimes poor US resale is a blessing. I too, love this car.

And when you get older, you hear crap like, "Must be going through a mid-life crisis," or "He must have low self esteem," or " He's got a small pee pee." Most of them are just jealous and uneducated.

Just enjoy the car and girls. Be glad the hater just used words instead of a key or beer bottle.

Amazing what a few ounces of alcohol will do to boost one's courage. I wonder if the jerk-off would say what he said without the liquid courage in his belly, and you were standing face to face?

Consider the source.......not worth your time or trouble.

I get that all the time. I'm in the Marines and my salary is public, the same as every other married E4 in the service.

And yet everyone thinks I have something on the side because I drive "a $50,000 car." I love it.

Good story with proper perceptions in place. I think you will be just fine young man, all along your path in life. Congrats and of course try and ignore and/or go in the opposite direction of trouble.

Peace,
Les

There's always going to be haters and jealous people out there. If only they knew what a bang for the buck the Corvette is.

I didnt think about if he had used a key or beer bottle. Thats kind of a scary thought.

There is proof on this forum of the stacking of ladies in the passenger seat. Yes, the roof has to be off... Sadly though, its not recommended for anyone that hasn't gone through the training since it can be a risky maneuver. Its in the 4th service manual if you care to learn though.

I get similar criticism because I got my C5 3 months after our first child was born.

I've always had sports cars and the last one was totaled when another driver crossed the centerline...on our way home from Church no less. I then told my wife I would get another sports car, but I had to be responsible first.

I used the insurance money to pay off my wife's student loans and to repair/replace a few things on the house. I drove a '91 Accord for a couple of years.

When the timing was right (read: just as the C6s came on the market) I bought a C5. It just happened to be right after our daughter was born. My wife had a brand new Maxima (we're essentially a single income family) so she wasn’t complaining.

I get a lot of comments from people at work and in my personal life razzing me about my choice of cars when I, "should be spending more money on my kids and less on myself" yada, yada.

What they don't understand is I paid less for my Corvette than they did for their new Camry. 97% of the miles on my car are put on with only one person in the car. I don't need a backseat and I frequently average over 30 mpg to and from work. I can work on the car myself and we have no car payments.

Let them scoff. At the end of the day, you’re still the one driving a beautiful sports car that you can afford.

A wise person once said "what other people think about me is none of my business" I have come to learn just how true that statement is. You handled it well, seems like you have a good head on your shoulders, enjoy your vette, and your youth they both go fast.
