Default Why does a 295 look so small next to a 305 tire? PICS

So I have two 295/30/20 (Toyo proxy 4) for the rears that I am thinking about replacing two 305/25/20 (contisport 3) but I am worried about loosing that wide tire. The 295 is around 11.5 inches of usable tire and the 305 is around 12.5 inches. Assuming both have brand new tread life, am I going to tell the difference with grip on a Z06 (intake, exhaust) on acceleration, cornering etc? Thanks

With your mods you may not notice much, especially with 20s

Some brands run wider than others even with the same listed width. Toyo's tend to run narrow I believe and the Cont's must run on the wider side.

That one is for sure wider but I will tell you one thing it appears one of those(or both) may not be the correct tire height for the vette. I see a pretty significant height difference between the two tires. Just out of curiosity have you messed with a tire height calculator to see exactly what size you need to to keep stock tire height?

the toyo is 26.9 overall diameter and the contisport is close to stock which is 26.1

Nominal size doesn't mean that much. You have to look the actual dimensions that each manufacturer supplies. There is actually a chance where one manufacturer's 295 is actually wider than another manufacturer's 305. I can almost bet you money that if you can get a hold of Michelin PS2 in the same nominal size, it will actually be bigger than the Toyo.

In summary, the visual comparison in the picture is normal.

FWIW it not all just about the tire width. A tire's design and construction also come into play. The softer the compound the better the grip at the expense of durability.

The conti's might give you better performance due to shorter height, which results in a higher effective gear ratio and lower inertia because the weight is closer to the center.

Don't notice it when they are on the car.
