I always thought it was for a lower center of gravity which contributes to better handling. You know, so we can make quick turns around hard corners without reducing speed. Did ya tell him that?

Because they would look really silly with a 24" hinged air dam in front dragging the ground.

Your friend definately should not own a Vette, with questions like that.
Perhaps a Gremlin or Pacer.

Two reasons.....Lower center of gravity for improved handling and cornering........Keep air (turbulence) from under the car at high speed which can result in instability..

apparently it's beyond his comprenchin.
