Why Is A C5 Faster Than A Trans Am
#6
That's easy, the Pontiac weighs 3,500 lbs. The Corvette weights about 3,200 lbs.
It also depends on what you mean by "faster". There is fast in a straight line and then there is fast around corners. There are drag racing cars, handling cars and all-around performers. It's not hard to figure out which category the Pontiac falls.

Pure GM marketing BS. The funniest is the Z28/Formula rating of 305HP...more like 305rwhp. There are some minute differences in cam and the Vette does have a slightly better exhaust, but basically a LS1 is a LS1 is a LS1...

the two cars don't compare... I have both a 2002 Firehawk Trans am and a 2002 C5 conv. Both have a 6spd.
The vette is smooth, refined, handles great and very quick.
The Firehawk is fast ( has a cam and tuning), handles good but not refined and a lttle rough around the edges.
The Vette is a pleasure to drive... the Firehawk is fast ans fun.
I love them both...

I have both as well and there is no comparison. TA is a "punch you in the face" rough car.
Vette is much more refined.
All else equal, in a strait line, stock vette vs. F-body. F-body will get the jump at the line and will launch harder (solid rear). Vette catches up and overtakes it before the finish. If you continued past the 1/4, the vette just really starts to pull away.
Go on a road course, and the F-bodies don't stand a chance. Aerodynamics, chassis balance, center of gravity, bigger tires, 300lbs lighter, etc, etc, etc.
