Transparent Roof Issue?

Transparent Roof Issue?
Hey guys. So I've about had it with my dad's roof. He's got a 2000 coupe with a transparent roof and I think as a result of the car being a daily driver under the relentless Las Vegas sun, the roof is shot. It looks like oxidation from the outside towards the sides of it, but from the inside looking out, it looks like its uniformly cracked in a million little spots (but it's not really cracked, never dropped or abused) and has some discoloration.
I love the car but the stupid roof issue takes away from an otherwise phenomenal car. I'm so fed up with it I'm just going to fix it myself for him.
So what does this sound like to you guys? Could it be some kind of tint issue or could the heat and sun actually cracked like an inner layer of it? I have no clue, but I know it needs to be fixed. Also if anyone knows where I could get an OEM replacement (not a fan of ebay) that would be great. Thanks everyone.

Here's one option:

By the way, I keep my car covered when outside in the nonstop California sunshine. My top looks like the day it was new - in June of 2001.

Melting Slicks
Yes a crappy top can take away from the car. Mine was getting that way too, I ended up getting another one. What I want to do with my old one is get it painted the same color as the car. Painted would stop the sun from getting the interior too hot, and keeps the UV off the seats a little better.

It almost always happens eventually, especially in your climate outside. Plenty of fixes available though.

You can try painting the roof (there have been some posts here on that process) or you can pick up a nice used on from the parts for sale section.

little update here... i wanted to just paint it but being im doing this favor for my dad he has the last word and decided that he wanted it recleared. i bought all the stuff yesterday and should be doing it this weekend. my only concern now is if i should just rattle can the clear since it will be sanded down anyways or take it to a paint shop. whichever way it goes, should be completed sometime late sunday and pics will be up shortly there after. thanks for all the help, its really cool that we can help eachother out on here and further enjoy these cars.
