Do LS2 heads fit an LS1?

According to the GMPP catalog:
LS1, LS6 and LS2 heads will fit an LS1 and LS6 block
LS1, LS6, LS2, L92 and LS3 heads will fit an LS2, L92 and LS3 block.
LS1 / LS6 blocks are 3.89" bore
LS2 blocks are 4.00" bore
L92 / LS3 blocks are 4.065" bore

I believe valve size needs to be taken into consideration as a larger intake valve may interfere with block/bore. I do not believe L92 heads can be used on a 346 but not sure without looking into it.

LS2 heads are the exact same casting (243) that was used on LS6 engines with the same bore size as the LS1. The only difference between a LS6 and LS2 head is the valves and springs (same size, just the LS6 had the lighter sodium filled exhaust ones for higher RPM's).
To the OP,
You can take any LS2 head, and it will bolt on perfectly and work fine on any LS1 without modification.
LS3 heads will NOT work on a 346 (LS1)
As for power gains, think of it this way. You have a fan pushing air into a closed space. You hear the fan struggling, since the closed space is so small. As you open the space up, more air starts to flow, but now you really open it up......and didn't get any more flow. What gives?
An engine is a pumping device, and everything must work together. Adding heads with a good tune may net you 20hp. It won't really shine until you add a high lift cam that you'll see any appreciable gains.

Very well said and LS2 heads would be a nice improvement over the LS1 heads and if ported even better

Looking to get a set of ls2 heads off a 03 ZO6 to put on my 04 ls1. Were there any issues with your swap? I read here on the forum that the ls2 has longer hollow valves, truth or fiction?

To use these heads on an LS1, you would also need to purchase an LS6 intake (to match the intake ports) and throttle body.

Ok so let me get this straight...
LS3 heads will fit an LS2
LS2 heads will fit an LS1
LS3 heads won't fit an LS1
This sounds like an SAT question.

Also, the LS2 heads despite being essentially the same as LS6 heads except for the sodium filled valves may have the casting #799, not #243 which is what's on the LS6 heads.
