Default 97-00 Intake power duct, worth it?

I bought this a year ago, but never installed it, because it required drilling. Any of you install this on your 97-00 Vette? Is it worth it? Will it cause any trouble codes or more of a rough idle?

Below is the product...

Why would it require "drilling"?

I think their claims of a 5 to 7 HP increase are , but I'd install it because it looks cool. It will not cause you any trouble codes or a rough idle. I doubt it will change anything as far as the way your car idles or runs but if it does, the computer will "learn" and make any changes needed after 50 miles.

it does require drilling a hole for some plug - it says it on the install instructions

I will post this weekend, when I have a chance to read it again

Not to worry, you just have to drill a small hole in the side of the smooth rubber coupler for a small plastic tube to fit into ( circled in pic below ), it's no big deal.

Agree with the Brother FireFighter. Installed the same air bridge and smooth coupler on my '99 and did have to drill a small hole for the sensor that fits in the air bridge. Not a big deal , but don't expect it to add 5-7 hp either.

hey Fin or Hawk - did the intake mod cause any trouble codes?

looks like you drill the hole into in the coupler that came in the package

FYI - To set the record straight, on the early C5`s the IAT (Intake Air Temp Sensor) IS located on the side of the air bridge and you WILL have to drill a hole (3/8in I think) in most after mkt air bridges. You can re-install the sensor into the new air bridge...... fyi the sensor can be difficult to get out, I just bought a new one from the dealer as they don`t cost much.

On later model C5`s the hole is not needed as the IAT Sensor is built into the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor.)

The other small plastic hose that connects to the side of the rubber coupler can be deleted by simply plugging the plastic hose.......this will not cause any issues and serves a redundant function........

100 % correct. I had to drill a small hole in the air bridge, not the coupler (4" silicone hose). And I don't recall the small plastic hose on the accordian style coupler, but that was 5 years ago and I don't remember things to well anymore. This in for a '99 also, as other years were different.

And no, I had no problems with the change. Your cars computer will adjust any difference (if any) after driving the car for an hour or so.

ive got a carbon fiber power duct on my 04 Z. i put it on when i put on my vararam and got it mostly for the look although it suppossedly gets a few horses you wont feel SOP. my car will throw a MAF or left or right bank lean code once in a while due to the increased air flow but no real problems. id buy it again. Good luck

Jim
