Default Low Profile Hydraulic Jack: OTC 5202

I've been looking for a high quality, low profile, long reach hydraulic jack for my lowered Z (1.5"). Previously I've tried a Walmart $70 BlackJack but it started leaking after a couple times. I've also used the Sears Craftsman jack but every time I'm underneath the car placing the jack stands. I always think about what would happen to my body if the jack suddenly gives at this very moment.

I needed some peace of mind. FYI, one source from the internet claims that most Chinese jacks are good for about 10 uses. Hence, if you use your jack three times a year, your jack will last about 3 yrs.

After searching the CF (I love this forum!), two very popular jacks come to mind. The Omega 29023 and AC DK13HLQ. Low profile, sturdy, and long reach. Perfect for the Vette, especially if yours is lowered like mine.

Great info here:http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...c-dk13hlq.html

The Omega (around $300) is considered to be one of the best Chinese jacks. But the fact that I have to oil her before I can use her makes me a little nervous. I like the Omega but at 120 lbs, I don't know if my back will ever forgive me if I happen to injure her. The AC is made in Denmark but cost more than an arm and a leg (at least $600). And as of last week, the AC jack is no longer available in the US.

Then I found the OTC 5202 2Ton service jack. OTC is an American company located in Minnesota. The jack however, is made in Spain.

The jack arrived today and I am impressed! Very sturdy, never knew Europeans can make jacks. The paint does chip easily but everything else is solid! I love the wheels, very quiet. All the hinges and caster are more than adequately oiled and lubricated. 20 pumps to get the car to max height. Twist the handle clockwise to lower. And this thing lowers at only one speed, very slow no matter how you twist. It doesn't rapidly drop your car to the ground when you're not paying attention.

And most important of all, it comes with a LIFETIME guarantee. Simply take it to a service center (any where from 1-4 centers in 37 different states). At $270 shipped and weighing in at just 70 lbs, I think I found my favorite jack!

Specs not listed (OTC 5202):

Made in Spain
With the round pad removed, the jack is 2 1/4" from ground
Center hole saddle diameter is about 1"
Square saddle (after round pad removed) measures 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
The front casters are 3" in diameter/height
Jack body height (highest point from mid section to rear) is 5 3/8"
Saddle center hole to rear casters is about 26"

Wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper to get some 2'0" pieces of 1x12 and put them in front of the tires and pull the car up on these so you could use the much cheaper low profile jacks that are out there. It looks like the wheels are almost 3"

Looks like a nice jack for the car. Let us know how well it works out over time.

Nice jack. However, it looks to me like its closer to 3" to the top of the wheels.

I bought my 3 ton jack at Costco for $70 and it is 3" with the pad on. It does not have as long a reach, but it easily services my non lowered car.

Yes it would be cheaper. But even with this jack, I still have to use some wood to ramp up the car since it's lowered. I've used cheaper jacks before but lately I've been finding myself getting under the car a lot. I just wanted extra peace of mind.

Costco also has an aluminum jack but it's around $110 now.

While the OTC is heavy at 70lbs, it's still lighter than the Omega (130#) and the AC (80#). But even at 70lbs, as long as you don't have to pick it up. I have no problem moving the jack around the garage. The wheels are really nice quality and they maneuver really well.

Also, there have been positive posts about the Sears 1.5 ton low profile.

Default Nice Jack

MSO4, what's max lift height on that jack? Those aluminum ones are nice, but they stop at under 15". My old iron Craftsman went up to 24" (although it wasn't a lo-profile), and I'm spoiled.

Now excuse me as I step to the pulpet: NEVER get underneath a car with just a jack (of any type) holding it up! ALWAYS use a good pair of jack stands, securely placed.
If in doubt, keep thinking of how it feels to suffocate if you're lucky enough not to die on initial impact. Remember that even American and Spanish mfg's with the best quality record can make a lemon!

The OTC has a max height of almost 19 inches.

And thanks for looking out for me. I never get under the car with just the jack. I always use jack stands. Even with the stands under the car, I usually throw the wheels under there too just for precaution. You can never be too careful. Sometimes I even place my cell within arms reach in case I need it.

Griot's costs a bit more, but they do provide a lifetime warranty on everything. I can speak from experience that they really do stand behind that warranty. I had a high ticket $600 item I purchased from them that was not working up to spec and they no longer carried it years later when it failed so they just sent me a check for the entire initial cost of the item - no hassle!

Here is where I got my AC jack. Heavy duty and the best jack I have ever had. Who cares how much it weighs? You are not going to have to pick it up and put it in the trunk, just roll it around the garage.
I have a DK20 and DK13HLQ. Maybe they will start selling them in the US again soon.

Expensive, but should last a lifetime.

This site now recommends OMEGA lift equipment.

That's great service! The OTC also has a lifetime warranty. You have to bring it to an authorized OTC service center though. Luckily, there is one about 15 minutes from me.

Wow, that's new to me. I checked their website two weeks ago and the Omega was not there. I guess now that the AC is no longer available, they're pushing the Omega. If you do a search, there are sites offering the Omega for less than $300 shipped.

Here is the Omega jack I bought awhile back great jack. The only complaint I have with it is the handle is not spring loaded.
