Thanks Greg. The number on the sticker is 12561828 but the casting number on the upper pan is 12561829 I assume the number on the casting is the one that would determin the correct application or am i wrong? Is there any info on the 829#? Thanks for your help. Ted

The part number determines the correct application. The casting number is just that. A casting number. Your local dealer parts dept can tell what the part number means. GM rolls part numbers all the time so the part number may have been superseded by another. Usually the dealership can tell you where a part number fits within a series of part number rolls.

Yep looks like the one I had on my '02 LS6 motor. It's now on my LS3 motor. Kind of a pita design with the wings, a lot of guys convert over to the newer oil pan designs so they don't have to work around the wings.
The items you have there are the upper and lower oil pan assemblies. If a guy busts a hole in the lower pan you can take it off easily but GM only sells the entire unit which isn't cheap. The upper half of the oil pan requires you to drop the front crossmember to get it out if my memory is correct. If you don't plan on using it you should be able to easily sell it..

They do not list a part number for the upper casting, because they only sell the assembly.
As Bill mentioned previously, that is just the number of the casting.
I could be wrong, but I thought any year 1997-2004 oil pan could be used on any year
LS1 or LS6, including the single piece pans on the older models.
