CD Changer vs Ipod vs ......
For your general information: I just purchased a in trunk CD changer, for
my 2000 C5 Corvette. Too late now; but, I just found out that the in dash GM CD radio will play music MP3 files. So, If you have a Computer or have a friend with one, you can convert the CD WAV files to MP3 and place all of your MP3 music on a CD. You can put from 100 to 200 MP3 music files on one CD. You radio will play them fine. No Ipod wires, no CD changer needed to get you lots of music. Your radio will see them as Track 1 to whatever. And will play them in order or as selected. Try it !!!!!
Correction:
You are right, I thought that because of the file size you could get more music files on a CD. CD is limited to 80 Min. I used Adobe Audition to burn my MP3's to CD.

How exactly do you store 200 MP3 files on 1 disc?

Typically when you burn an audio cd, the files are formatted as such that the quality is very high and in turn the file sizes are very high. When you burn an mp3 cd, mp3's are much smaller in file size, which will allow for a much higher number of tracks to be burned to one cd. Only trade off is that mp3 cd's are not playable in all cd players.
Typical mp3 file size ~2-4 MB
Typical wav or equivalent ~ 30-40 MB
Either could be greater depending on bitrate and length of song!
Hope this helps!

The stock HU plays mp3 discs? Dayum!!! How come I never learned this before now?!
Oh well, too late for me too. I went the iPod2car route and never looked back. Having 3,000 songs to choose from trumps 200. But at least with an mp3 disc, I could re-claim my cup holder. But then again, girl in a box took care of that, too! Sheesh!

This is all good to know, however I still plan on upgrading to a DD NAV/MP3/DVD unit.
My only concern with a CD with 200 songs would be when I was trying to find a specific song. I guess you could keep a spreadsheet folded in the glovebox, however since my IPOD has 5000+ songs in my library, I would still need to carry a lot of CDs that could only be played in the head unit.
I like the idea of my IPOD wired through the glovebox and then having touch-screen ability to pull up tracks, playlists, etc. that replicate the face of the IPOD.
Thanks for sharing. This is great information to know in the interim.

Wow, are you sure about this? I am gonna burn a MP3 disc and try this out. I was contemplating buying a new H/U just so I could load a CD with a few hundred MP3's. I am sick of only getting 18 (or so) songs on a CD.
If this works, I think we all need to buy the OP a brewski!

Well, I just used Nero Burning ROM and created a MP3 CD with about 60 songs. I inserted it into the stock Bose H/U in my 2004 C5 coupe. It came up with "Track 1", but that was as far as it got. There was no sound and I could not advance to another track. So this does not appear to work, not for me anyway..............
Just to confirm the CD was good, I tried it in my home computer and it worked fine.
What program did you use to create the MP3 CD?
thanks

I agree with MSG. I have tried an MP3 disc before and you can't find your songs worth crap.
Right now I have an IPOD hidden away in the car that is hooked up to an IPOD compatible stereo. You can play by genre, artist, favorites, etc. It is the best way to go IMO. The stereo has the same interface as the IPOD and controls it so you don't have to have an IPOD holder or charger sitting out in view of any crooks.

I tried it for my 2004 and it didn't work either. I now run a Clarion H/U with a USB input and a 300G laptop hard drive. With about 5000 MP3's, Its only about 1/4 of the way full. I rip my MP'3 at 320 vice the 128 you mostly see. The higher the number on a MP3 the less data is lost. (meaning better sound quality)Tride to burn them to .wav files but my H/U won't play that type of file.
If you rip them at 320 youll get about 50+ songs on a cd. At 128 I've gotten around 120+. If you are getting 200, either they are really short songs or the bit rate is lower than 128.
