I'm also thinking about doing this, my front rotors are brand new and the hats are severely rusted. Can you spray the high-temp over the rust? Would love to see some pics...

I just did mine a few hours ago. I did my hat with rustoleum's stop rust series granite colored paint. Not too much prep involved. Just spray onto the hat and dont worry too much about masking. Just mask off the caliper. Anything else will be "sanded off" thanks to the brake pads doing their job.

Have seen a few painted - nice way to get rid of the rusty look and easy to do.

After knocking the rust off with the wire brush, or whatever, I usually spray it down with Brake Cleaner to make sure the surface is nice and clean..Of course, be careful to keep from spraying your calipers if they're painted!
