Default Bought Used "Targa" Top-it leaks a little bit...

Yes, I know, driving in the rain...blah blah blah. I drive mine every day. Get over it.

I bought torch red painted top and it looks GREAT!!

But it leaks a little bit. When the Vette was sitting outside in the rain, no water came in, then the car moved and as I drove away, water came in on the passanger side-looked like it came from right above the window-might be closer to the rear.

How much of the insulation on the top can be changed? Can the black plastic on the edges of the top be replaced?

Also, the passanger side of the top doesn't seem to "sit" all the way in. The passanger side of the top is just a LITTLE bit higher than the drivers side. Is there any adjusting that can be done?

Is it a good idea when replacing the insulation to just replace it all in that area?

I drive in all weather, so I want this to be perfectly water tight-any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

Sounds like you need to replace the side weatherstrip moulding. There are two groves that the strip needs to be seated into. The ends is what takes the beating and i'm the source of the leaking.

You may need to adjust it to fit your car.

I found this on another site:

Roof Adjustment
I looked up your problem in my '99 shop manual which describes the following adjustments:
Adjust rear striker to ensure locator pins are fully seated.
Coarse ajustment - loosen rear striker bolts and move striker forward.
Fine Adjustment - loosen set screw and turn hook 1 turn at a time.
Front Striker
Coarse adjustment - loosen striker mounting bolts and reposition up or down
Fine adjustment - loosen striker outboard bolt, slightly loosen inboard bolt and pivot striker bracket up or down on inboard bolt.
Anybody know what this stuff means? With pics? LOL

Thanks, but the window looks just fine and there was NO leaking with the transparent top-none at all. Just some leaking with the painted top.

Well, I took the top off and some of the weather stripping near the hole where the little metal thing goes in closer to the rear of the car was a bit torn, so I superglued it for a temporary fix. I also had help to put the top on this time to eliminate putting the top on by myself as the issue. We'll have to wait and see-it didn't always leak, only sometimes.

EDIT:

Looking at this diagram, I have a feeling that 6, 5, 18, and 13 might need replacement. (I noticed that my "13" was slightly torn in one spot as stated above. I e-mailed my vette mechanic for his opinion.

Why is it when I spend money, I end up having to spend MORE money just to get things right?

Just bumping this up again for more opinions.

I guess threads that have to do with water or rain sink to the bottom pretty fast.

I had the weather stripping replaced.

98vettekid bumped my thread up.

I have not driven in the rain since the weather stripping was replaced though.
