Car theft close calls
Hey guys, i was just wondering if any of you have had any close calls with your car being stolen. I had a close one tonight, I went into a gas station to use the bathroom and two guys were staring at me as i walked in. As I walked out one said to the other "hes not that big" as he was staring at me while i was watching him out of my peripherals. I walked to my car and hear a "hey man" and was like.... ****. I turn around and they came up to me and said "nice car" and started speaking to me. They asked me if i had a cigarette lighter and then asked me for $2 dollars. Eventually they told me to have a good one and walked to their car. How about you guys?

No one has ever messed with me while I was in/with my car. Hopefully it will continue that way.

I dont play games with anyone, if I feel my property or family is in jeopardy I will take action to remedy the situation and violence is my way to do that, I am pretty good at it. I cant help it if you are helpless in taking matters into your own hands, maybe you should get some training

Closest I have gotten to having a car stolen was on a trip from DC to LA. Was with a friend and we were taking his late 80's IROC and stopped in kansas city for the night with some family. Went outside to get the camera to show off some pictures from the trip and there was someone sitting in the car. By the time I got down the sidewalk he jumped into a waiting truck and took off. The steering column was broken and had I gone out about 10 seconds later, he would of had the car. Don't think you can get much closer.

Uh...if I may be so bold to ask..how is it possible to have a "close call" regarding call theft? Either they steal it or they don't..
Unless they steal it, and you run after them barefooted, 12 gauge in hand (and a heroic dog at your side of course) jump onto the back of their flatbed, shoot the tires, and then engage in an action packed fist fight with the theives in the cab. As an 18-wheeler passes, you throw the driver out of the window into the path of the vehicle, killing him instantly. Then, you throw the other guy's face into the gearshift, puncturing his eye socket, killing him. You then commandeer the flatbed to a nearby scenic cliff, and then rip the chains off of your vette with your eyelashes, only to discover Jessica Alba naked in the passenger seat.
It's late and I'm bored.

Didn't happen when I had a C5, but years ago I had a '79 and went to my reserve weekend in St. Louis. They put us up in a hotel for the weekend and the first night I was there I parked the car in the hotel parking lot. I had a pager device installed on the car which would send a signal is someone tried to use the car's door handle. About 1 am, I was sleeping in the room when the pager went off.
Looked out the hotel window and saw two guys - one was already in the car and the other was standing outside. I told my room mate to keep an eye on things and I got dressed and went downstairs and out the door. As I got to the edge of the building, I yelled out what the @*%& are you doing in my car and luckily, that spooked the two pieces of scum and they took off.
Went over to the car and they had popped the door lock, then had already had the bezel around the ignition key popped. They also had taken a club like device off. A few more minutes and the car would have been history.
Called the local police, but they took almost an hour to arrive. The management of the hotel allowed me to park the car up front by the main entrance for the rest of the night and the next day the car went back home.
As I look back on the incident, it probably was not the best move to go out and yell at the thiefs, as I had no idea if they had a gun, other weapon, etc.
Never had any problems in the other Corvettes I have owned.
