Default gto ls2 vs corvette

i recently sold my 07 ram hemi to purchase a corvette c5 z06 or c6 but i had alot of time to think about it when my truck was up for sale.
GTO's were really on my mind because my payments would be MUCH better. im talking 200 dollers a month better.
my question is-
When your driving a c5 z06 or c6, is the acceleration that much more noticable then when your driving an ls2 gto?

i want a car thats going to impress my friends and the fastest car they have been in is a 1999 camaro.
I've driven a 04 z06 and was blown away. but for the money i save buying a gto how much will my "noticable" acceleration be effected.
thanks
brady

*the back seat in the gto would be cool and i live in montana so the weather is ****ty 9 months out of the year. the gto would be much more practical here

I'm seeing '05 GTO's in my area for $18K....Z06's are around $24K...On a 5yr loan that's a little over $100/mo difference..

How about a C5 non-Z06? they can be had for 15-18K depending upon mileage, year , condition...LS2 GTO's vs a std C5 is a driver's race (edge goes to the C5), but the C5 will blow it away in handling...

Yes, it's going to be noticeable. The GTO coughs up about 600+ lbs to the Corvette. That's a HUGE difference.

I say this with first hand experience, my 99 Coupe when I bought it at stock and my buddies stock 05 GTO.....my 99 felt quicker.

Really, though, you're going to have to drive them to get your SOTP impression in terms of what kind of acceleration is "enough"...

a friend of mine has an ls2 gto and my 99 pulls just as hard if not harder than his gto. the weight is a huge difference. get the vette, even if its not a Z06. you can always modify it later.

Go with the C5 or C6. Better performance, better fuel economy, better looks.

Its a PIG with big wheel hop problems. The GTO that is lol. I came from a GTO and the Z06 blows it away in EVERY aspect except the interior. But it weighs soo much less and is a true sports car so what can you expect?

Well first off you want to know about a C5 or C6, if your worried about payments then you cant afford a C6. And 2nd if you are buying a car to inpress your friends then you have other problems beside what car to buy :-(

To the question, buy the C5

What are you,19yrs old?
Buying a Vette to IMPRESS your friends
You buy a Vette because you want a Vette..... The only person you have to impress is yourself

If your friends are impressed by the last car across the finish line, get the GTO.

im 21, but anyway i just wanted to know from someone who's been in all these cars if the gto is respectable.
at a car lot in my town theres a
2005 c6 with 38,000 miles for $26,000.00
& a
2003 c5 z06 with 50,000 miles for $25,000.00
& a
2006 gto with 48,000 miles for 16,500.

the reason my payments go down 200 with the gto is because with the 2006 and up they will draw out my loan longer

i really want the c6 but if the gto will keep up with it i dont know if i can resist because of the price difference. BUT THE C6 IS SUCH A DEAD SEXY CAR! UHHHHHH I DON'T KNOW

and for the "impress my friends" replys i just mean i want a car that will smoke a stock 99 camaro!

You're not driving the nail very high. My '79 L82 would take care of the Camaro. The '04 vert you see in the pic leaves the L82 like it was standing still. You might want to price some C5's non Z06. Good luck! Post pics when you get your 'vette.

Well, I can tell you something about the GTO. I had an O6 GTO and sold it with 3400 miles to get my Vette. Yes, it pulled like shot out of a cannon. Top speed on the GTO is only supposed to be around 150. Mine was not broke in so I never achieved even close to that speed. I kept it down at reasonable speeds. But, I am 41 years old too. The Vette is much smoother and a heck of a lot nicer car. From driving both, I know that the Vette would run with the GTO. Get the Vette and don't look back. The GTO is a heavy car and doesn't handle as near as well as the Vette. That can get you into trouble very quickly. Just be careful whatever you get. I have seen too many pics of young kids with GTO's and Vettes that tried to impress someone and put it in a ditch or around a tree or pole. Just good luck with either purchase.

Impressing your friends in either car could get you seriously hurt. But, to answer your question, it's simple, C5/C6, there, problem solved.

You said that you live in Montana, correct? Is this going to be your only mode of transportation? If so, the GTO would fair better in the winter weather. The corvette's wouldn't handle all the deep snow/slush.
Where at in Montana?
I lived in Bozeman about a year and a half ago.
Good luck with your decision.
