How do I get behind center console by passenger's legs
I was hoping to attach some foldable cupholders in the area where the removable ones that vendors sell go. I want to get behind there and put some wood behind the carpet so that I can screw the cupholders in and them be able to hold the weight of a gatorade bottle.
I had my center console apart once before and I don't think there was room to get behind the carpet over there. I looked at some pics in Vette Magazine from their shifter install and it also appeared there is no easy way to get behind there.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get behind that carpet and put an 8"x12" piece of wood back there? Maybe someone who removed their carpet can help me out?

Try looking at the various install instructions on www.vetteessentials.com. They describe how to take the center console loose, so that may help you out.

On mine I am able to pull the carpet out from under the center console by the pass leg area. Just buckel it as you slip either a long needle nose or a hook (hanger) in there and you should get enough play.
If not, the center console is not hard to remove.
Pop off air temp grille to right of steering wheel, remove screw.
Pull ashtray, remove screw.
Pop off airBag/TC switch bezel, d/c plug, put aside.
Open center console, pop caps, remove two nuts.
Slide center console (rear half) back until you can get to the two nuts holding the center console in (dont have to remove rear half, just slide it back a bit)
Remove two nuts holding center console.
Lift rear or center console, it secures around radio with a few tabs.
Done.

I did just what you described......put in one foldable cup holder for my passenger. I just used a VERY thin piece of plywood about 2" wide behind the carpet. Screwed my cup holder through the carpet to the plywood with very short screws.
It has been used many times for over two years......works fine.
On second thought, you could use a piece of sheet metal and pop rivet the cup holder to it through the carpet.
