C1287 and C1288 errors
Hi all-
I have a 2001 Coupe and have been getting the C1288 Service Active Handling and C1287 Service Column Lock errors and believed the problem to be my EBCM. I had it repaired, but am still getting the errors. I saw a few posts on the bypass device, but wasn't sure if it would fix both of these codes. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt

I have battled those two codes so many times I see them in my dreams or should I say nightmares. If you are referring to the turn signal bypass, no that will not help with active handling issues. You may need a new steering wheel position sensor.

Thanks Stormrider. Any idea how difficult the position sensor replacement is or where to get one? Also, do you know if there is a procedure on CF about it?

EBCM change is normally the dreaded C1214. I've had those codes on and off for a while and I've narrowed it down to the SWPS. I have a new one waiting to go in but its a complicated job and you need to pull the steering column. Its an $80 part.
Heres a link if you're feeling brave (post #15):

One question, have you had either of the front brake lines loose lately?
Damaged crush washers can send erroneous noise signals to the EBCM.
Be sure these washers are copper, not aluminum, if someone has taken a line loose.
