Check Engine Light & Codes
My Check Engine light came on, so I took at look at the error codes and found two:
10-PCM P0171 HC
10-PCM PO174 H
How do I figure out what those codes mean?
Related (maybe) question: I have been having problems with false Low Fuel warnings. Based on the advice in another thread (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...k-sensors.html) I've added Techron to the last 2 fill ups. AFAIK Check Engine is suppose to be related to a possible emissions problem. Could the Check Engine light be caused by the Techron?

The false low fuel warnings is common amoung c5's, happens to me all the time. My check engine light just came on as well and the book says it has to do with emissions. But after a beer and deductive reasoning, I came up with: 1. My engine oil life is at 14%, I've never let it get that low so that might be it. 2. I put 91 octane at a sh*tty off brand gas station, I usually go to sunoco, but they didnt have 93 and I was in the middle of no where. 3. It really is an emissions problem and if an oil change and/or good fresh 93 doesn't do the trick, I guess it's time for a trip to the stealership. As for your question about the techron, I don't see why adding that would cause a problem, but I may be wrong. Other than that, sit down with a cold one and think, worked for me lol

You need to find a good tuner to plug into the car and look at the 02's in action. You say he added fuel, but those codes are for a lean condition, so it doesn't make sense that your tuner did anything wrong. The car has a base fuel map and then uses the sensors for feedback and to decide what adjustments to make from that base fuel map. These adjustments are called fuel trim cells. There are short and long term trims. If the fuel trims are too high in one direction or the other, the PCM will throw a code. If the car was fine for a long time after the tune and all of the sudden started throwing these codes, your problem is most likely somewhere other than the tune.

This problem only got worse. I decided to clear the codes and wait and see what happened. A couple of days later, the Check Engine light came back on and then the car stalled and I couldn't get it started. The independent repair shop I've been going to tells me that the fuel pumps are bad, and that in order to replace the full pumps they have to pull the tank. Total cost $2700!!!

The check engine light and the p0171 code came up this morning when I pulled out the garage. I had the car on the lift yesterday to swap swaybars, oil change and fuel filter. I drove the car home lastnight (~ 10 miles) with a stop at Advance Auto and had no codes or check engine light. I bring it out the garage, cruise a 1/4 mile and get the code and the light.
I'm 'guessing' the problem revolves around the fuel filter?
When installing the new filter I made sure the area around the filter was clean and the 10mm nut was tight.BTW: No fuel smell or leak in the garage this morning.

My '03 gave those codes for awhile after I installed a certain ram air system. It usually occurred when I accelerated when getting on the interstate. It has not given these codes lately.
