Dealer Made Ignition Key Quality
I lost my ignition key, and need to have another made. I can either have a copy of my spare made, or have one cut using the VIN number at the dealer. Are the dealer keys better quality than copies? Will a dealer key generated from the VIN be of the same quality as the factory key?
Most key copies are of very poor quality in my experience, hence, the interest in the dealer key.

To the guys who had dealer made keys, did the dealer make it based on the VIN, or just copy another key?
Thanks!

I bought 2 keys, One from the dealer and he cut it with the key and I bought another from Ecklers for half the price and had the local locksmith cut it for 3 bucks and they both seem the same.

If you order a blank VATS key for your car make sure you take the old key and put an ohm meter across the metal parts of the chip. You will need the Ohm reading so you can order the right key!

I did this and then ordered one off ebay, and works fine. That was 3 years ago.
I had the local locksmith cut it for me.
