Default Pointers on touch up paint (spray) for my corvette?

Any ideas, comments about doing it, or even instructions on how to use a can of spray paint (corvette paint to match) to touch up an area of the hood?

Looks like a seagull may have left his mark on the hood at sometime in the past. Just a small area about the size of a half dollar and about 1/32" deep. I sure would like to fill it in and touch it up, but I'm a little fearful the end result might look worse than it does now.

Any ideas on how to fix this, without having to paint the entire hood, and possibly have it blend with the rest of the paint as not to be really noticed.

Thanks

P.S. Thanks for those comments about where I could find some touch up paint for the vette.

You'll want to avoid the rattle-can approach to painting for panel repair. It will never attain the quality you're looking for in a touch-up repair. I posted a thread on my paint refreshing session this summer (below). One of the blemishes I eliminated was very much as you describe above. You'll need to take a similar approach, albeit by hand, to minimize the "fowl" damage (pun shamelessly intended ).

Here's a before shot . . .

. . . and after.

Spay paint is a big no-no for diy...try polishing it out. Indy

(nice repair work Patches). I was also going to suggest using a buffer. I had similar problems with my hood and got most of the etchings out.

You might also do a search over in the car care section of the forum. Good info over there on elimination bird droppings etc. Good luck

The problem is most likely in the clearcoat anyway. Wetsand with 1500 or 2000 grit wetpaper and buff will clear up most of it most likely. BE CAREFUL, the clearcoat is THIN.
