Yes, with a stock motor. I dont know how much more HP it takes to gain more speed with 6th gear. But seriously who is going to test this? My Z is supposed to go over 170mph in stock trim. I dont think I will ever try to top it out......scary!

sure is, tops around 170 something. 6th is just too tall, its for MPG.

I believe GM states their top speed is reached in 5th,,as I recall for the targa coupes is 174. The hard tops a little less,,around 170. You can reach WELL into the 100's in 6th,,but as the speed goes up the stock motor starts loosing the aero drag war!! That's why the slightly lower ratio in 5th pulls farther into the RPM range and reaches a higher top speed!!! I'd LOVE to find a place to top her out in a legal way!!! Guess I'll have to be content with my 107 to 110 on the strip!!

6th is a Goberment mandated highway fuel mileage gear, not a performance gear.

Yes, it is true. Top speed in the C5 can be reached in 5th gear.

Both 5th and 6th gears are over drive gears, meaning they are less than 1:1....
allowing for more fuel efficiency. 5th gear is less fuel efficient than 6th gear.

Speaking from experience, I ran well past 160 in 5th, but it slowed down in 6th. So I went back to 5th.................

I have done in my stock 02 Z06 174 in 5th gear. There just happen to be a 2002 Viper and a CL 55 AMG Mercedes Benz trying to do the same thing, key word "TRYING" . This was in Mexico of course on a abandoned air strip.

Yes, the C5 will have a higher top end speed in 5th compared to 6th gear.

5th gear if you're stock, 6th if you have a LOT of power.
