Is There Any Way to Clean the Hood Insulation?
My 2002 Z06 hood insulation looks in great shape except it has white "water-like" stains on it at various places. What is the best way to remove these stains from the insulation??
Thanks
Thanks

Slow and very careful...... Best way is to tape off the painted areas and spray a flat black paint over the entire insulation, cleaning it is very difficult on that material, it borders wall insulation that is compressed with like hair spray to keep it compressed. I had some white stuff splattered, I just, spot sprayed, it with flat black and it turned out great. Good luck.

Impossible to clean with any type of contact.
Replace it for $99 shipped from www.oehq.com - you do not need to replace the plugs as they come out easily.

With the hood up...
spray with a 3 parts 1 1 part simple green solution.
let sit for 5 minutes.
then rinse well... I prefer a pressure washer with the broadest fan setting. but a garden hose will do.
Leave the hood up to let it drip dry.
DO NOT BRUSH
If it still looks bad pop out the body plugs, lay it on your driveway and spray it with a rattle can ...
Use flat balck BBQ paint.
Use several LIGHT coats.

the high temps dont matter you can use any kind of flat black. if it is going to get hot enough under your hood to mess up the paint on the insulation then your car itself will be on fire and that will be the least of your worries

When you paint the crossed flags use Testors paint pens, theyhave a broad chisel tip.
Turn the tip sideways for edging and then fill in woth the broad sided

Thanks, this is more what I was thinking. I figured the BBQ paint was recommended because of the heat issue, but I too wouldn't think it would get that hot. It doesn't make sense to paint the whole thing with BBQ paint for heat protection and then paint the cross flags with regular paint if heat is going to mess up your work.

[QUOTE=mojoman;1573636277][FONT="Comic Sans MS"][SIZE="3"][COLOR="Blue"]You won't believe this, but it was discussed in the Forum a few weeks ago. This really works. Spray the area that is stained with The Tire Foam you use to dress up your tires. Not the clear tire dressing but the foam. Spray it on, let it set for a minute and Bingo, the stain is gone! If it is a really heavy stain, spray again and brush it off with a towel. You will be amazed on how well this works to clean up the insulation pad.

I agree with mojoman try it before painting it works great!

Do a search on P/N 10285631, current price is $111.73
Why are you guys quoting replacement costs without factoring in the freight cost which is a killer.
Unless the liner is torn and a complete mess, your best bet is take it off the car and paint it yourself as discussed above.
