Question on Stereo
I was going to post this in stereo section but do not need tech advice just opinion. I replaced stock stereo with Pioneer single din and replaced front small speakers and rear speakers with JL from DoubleD, it sounds better but not great. I reversed polarity when installing speakers so know that is fine. My question is, would adding a sub woofer and amp, will that greatly improve my present set up. I know that the sub will help with the bass but will the highs come out better in my speakers by adding a sub with amp. Also shouldn,t I disconnect the big speakers in doors if I add a sub. I am a novice at this and help is appreciated. The big speakers in door are original so that makes them 15 years old, the JL's up front and in back are a year old!

I am doing a full setup in mine. 2 pair of 6.5's, 12" sub and 2 digital amps. It will be simple, cheap, clean, and sound great.

Adding a sub & amp is a great addition/upgrade. You should also replace the big speaker in the door - it adds good mid-bass to round out the sound.
I bought a used amp and then bought my sub & stealth box from Dennis. Talk to him regarding the upgrades.

Or if you want to run big mind bending power you can put 6x9s in the doors if you mount them on 1" bases.
The door panels will fit over them no problem.
You can use 2 of the original upper holes for screws and drill 2 more for the bottom ones.
I got these older Pyle 4 way speakers that easily handle 150 watts rms
and reworked the covers to fit underneath.
They are cheap but they actually sound pretty good.
These are the current ones on ebay

Since these pics were taken I put in these 110 watt rms Infinity Kappas in the doors and put the Pyles out back.

These 2 old school Rockford Amps (600a4 and 500a2) that are mounted on rubber posts put out 1000+ watts rms

It's so much better than the C5 shifter which is too tall.
The C5 **** is also too big at the top and doesn't fit in the hand as well.
The C6 rounded **** flows beautifully when shifting almost like a ball joint extension of my hand.
I have a padded console that adds an inch to the height of my hand on the shifter so I found the C6 was actually too short for my liking especially putting it into reverse so I moved the **** up 3/4" or so.
All you have to do is drill a new 1/8" hole on the stem and use a 1/2" #8 sheet metal screw to hold the ****.
I fit it ergometrically to my self and now it's as good as it can possibly be.

My next project after stereo is replacing C5 shifter with C6, right now I am installing led turn signals and DRL. Then want to upgrade suspension, never stops!!!

I put the euro tails in, front and rear spoilers, side skirts, larger sway bars and an A&A supercharger ( this I had installed and dynotuned), and a Ticks clutch master I modified for stock pedal pressure and an ECI girdle.
I reworked my rad cradle so it fits in the stock position instead of the lowered A&A setup for the SC so I have factory ground clearance.
I added a BOV recirculation setup as I hated hearing the BOV going off tshing between every shift.
Now it's perfectly quiet like a factory luxury car not some compromised race car.
I just got in an RK Sport hood that I'm reworking.
I'm always fiddling and improving things to my better satisfaction as you can see.
Now I have a 600 hp car with 540 rwhp to match my 1000+ watt stereo.

It sounds like you just put 6.5 in the rear and I'm not sure what you replaced in the front if you say you still have the old big speakers.
I have a set of 6x9 enclosed in boxes in my FRC right behind my seats in front of my divider, and new 6.5 in the front, with an Alpine single din and alpine KTP 445 45 watt power pack. I have JBL speakers which have great bass and highs.
The rule of thumb is if you have 6.5 speakers you need a sub to balance them. The reason Bose can get away with the smaller speakers is they use a 2 ohm setup that drives the hell out of the speakers with a separate amp to each.
But just a plain old head unit and 6.5 speakers won't get it done for me either. But you don't have to spend a ton of money to get quality sound, it just depends on what you are really looking for and the style of music you play.

One other thing. If you add a sub it's best to put quality component speakers in the front and lose your back if you go with a 2 speaker setup and sub or you're gonna have all your sound, highs and lows, all coming from the same place. Your best soundstage is always from the front like you listen to a home stereo or you're at a concert.

I just finished my custom install today. Molded my own fiberglass box and made it to fit a 10" in the back. Kept Bose speakers and put in a new single DIN. The car resonates nicely. I just need to play with it to get the right sound. I was too cheap to buy a stealth box, and who knows after all was said and done whether I saved any money or not making my own, but I enjoyed it.

I bought this one - for $40 I thought it was a steal! The only drawback to this one is you're limited to a shallow sub. That being said, I am very pleased with this setup.

Front Speakers
What I have up front is 2 speakers in each door, the big one and a small one (3 or 4 inch) I replaced the small front and the rear speakers with JL but the big bose speakers are still in each door. The big speakers suck, should I just get amp and replace the stock amp, doesn't each bose speaker up front have its own amp? I was thinking 5 channel amp, one for each speaker and then one for a subwoofer.
