how to get a new engine
This is not really c5 related other that I was at the shop to hopefully pick up my crashed and now repaired C5 but they were running late and it will be tomorrow at 9am before I get her, while I was there I Could not help but be nosey and listen in in a conversation then ask questions to make sure what I thought I heard I really heard.
and if she had a C5 she would not be needing a new engine
had she had a C5 it would have gotten her home on limpin mode, which is one thing that amazes me about these cars.
if GM can design an engine with an aluminum block and heads that will drive 100 miles with no coolant in it, why can the other companies do the same?
I know for a fact that the C5 can go with no water for 20 miles because I drove mine that far once
apparently a young woman in a new Honda ran over a big rock or something in the road and it busted her radiator,
she continued to drive it even though all the dashlights were flashing and the car was smoking like crazy, she kept driving till it just stopped.
then called dad who called a tow truck and had it took to the body shop because of the damage in the font valance, she had ran the car so hot that it had melted stuff under the hood including the plastic caps and dipstick.
Now her insurance is paying to have a new engine installed.
Can someone please tell me how that would really be covered by insurance?
When the car started overheating and smoking that should have been enough warning to stop, let along you know the dash lights would be going crazy.
I know you buy insurance for accidents and the problem stemmed from an accident but to me the insurance should only go as far as the initial damage. at which point had she stopped and called daddy all she would need was a new bumper.
There is no way I would ever consider turning that in even though i can see my wife doing something like that.

Melting Slicks
I guess it goes to say if the radiator wasn't ruptured then the engine would not have failed...as well as... if the driver had stopped when the light was flashing the engine would not have failed.
+1 for the insurance company paying for it, I want them to be my provider!

I guess it depends on the insurance company, when I was a teen I had a radiator malfunction on my motorcycle (Ninja) , the radiator split a seam and the hot water/steam literally deformed the plastic fairing of the bike, not horrible but enough that it was noticeable... When I talked it over with my insurance company they refused to honor it because there wasn't a 'fire'... They told me that if there was any signs of smoke or flame damage they would honor and repairs, but not for water/steam damage... Might be the same with this, if the engine got hot enough that it actually 'burnt' something than she might be sneaking in under a similar 'fire/flame' clause for replacement, same as if your car turned into a Car-B-Q...

Don't know why they would cover it either, but I agree, most likely her premiums will hit the roof.
