Anybody have a dealer license or go to auction??
I recently sold my 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and am looking into getting a 02+ c5 Z. A friend of mine's dad works at a very large dealership in our area and said he would go to the auction and give it to me at price. My question is does anyone know what these cars are going for at auction?

agreed. auction is a crapshoot on what you'll get. i'd say 50/50 chance of getting a great deal, or a huge bomb. just my .02
edit: before going to auction, personally I'd check carmax. they inspect their cars well, and you can transfer cars to location...for a nominal fee.

buying from an auction, on ebay or even a private party is a crapshoot.
i learned from my mercedes dealer uncle that no one sells a vehicle that is perfect, they would keep it if it was.

If you really want Pm me and I can send you the auction results. There not allowed to be posted anymore. I used to own a used car business and most the C5's that I see at the auction are just not that great or can be a huge gamble.

It can be tough to find a really nice car at an auction. Usually dealers keep the nice cars and send the rough ones through the auction. Also keep in mind most cars are sold as-is with only power train protection.
I would keep your eyes in the For Sale section of this board...plenty of nice cars!

Interesting seeing this post..
A guy I work with told me today that he's friends with a used car dealer who is willing to buy people cars at cost (plus a few hundred). My coworker said the salesman has already done this for a number of people..
Ignoring the whole issue of whether or not he'd do/not do it for me, I was under the impression you (or the dealer at least) can look over the car pretty carefully before they bid. Is this not the case?
