The before picture looks like it had already had some darkening done to the taillights. Mine look like the before picture of yours and I have one coat of Niteshades on them. I have 2 coats on the side marker lights and they look like the after pictures of your car.

I was following a C5 of a fellow club member one day and I could hardly see his brake lights come on, Sure they look good, But I feel they are a safety concern.
I would say the dark reduced the light by 50% or more.
