Chevron Pro Gard with Techron vs Techron Concentrate?

Thank you for your inquiry. It has been forwarded to us here at Chevron
Fuels Technical Service.
The ProGard and Techron products contain the same chemical additive.
There is but one grade of the Techron product, while there are four
grades of Pro-Gard. The Pro-Gard products are "Clean-up", "Fuel Injector
Cleaner", "Fuel Injector Plus Intake Valve Cleaner", and "Gas
Treatment".
The ProGard products give lower, less effective concentrations. These
lower-concentration packages often sell for less. They have less "keep
clean" and "cleanup" properties. They are also not concentrated enough
to clean combustion chamber deposits. There are only subtle differences
amongst the Pro-Gard products, mostly having to do with concentration.
Techron Concentrate Fuel System Cleaner is the most concentrated and
will clean combustion chamber deposits. There is approximately 100% more
active ingredient in the Techron Concentrate than the Pro-Gard Fuel
Injector Cleaner. The active ingredient is Poly Ether Amine with a
solvent carrier.
A bottle of Techron Concentrate Fuel System Cleaner, when added to
gasoline according to the label instructions, results in an additive
concentration roughly 10 times stronger than the dose in Chevron
gasolines.
If you always used Chevron gasolines, you should be getting enough of a
dose of Techron such that you should not have to purchase the
Concentrate.

I use Chevron exclusively, but a couple weeks ago,my gas gauge decided to stick on "full"
Dumped a jug of Techron into apx 3/4 tank, and within 2 days, the gauge was working fine again.
I figure the Techron additive in the gas is a pretty weak concentration,so it needs a little kick in the a$$ every now and then with "added additive".
If Chevron put enough Techron in the gas to do a 100% job, then they wouldn't sell much in the auto parts stores, and we all know how oil companies love that money!

I use Shell gas, another top tier gas. It keeps my gas gage (which has malfunctioned in the past) working right.
I still add a bottle of Techron Concentrate to each of my cars after an oil change.
The posted info was appreciated, I often wondered about these products.

I've use both Sea Foam (in the gas) and Berrymans B12 Chem tool with good results when I don't find the Techron on sale. (Never pay retail)

Texaco gasoline also has Techron as an additive.

Save yourself some money...just run the concentrate every oil change or something and then stick to the ACRO or whatever is cheaper gas.
You really think these oil companies care about making better fuel at one of their stations? If you don't mind an extra few bucks per tank...go for it.
I'd bet that every single "cheap" gas station in whatever city you live in...gets their gas out of the same huge tank that BP does.
BP owns say USA..
Shell...SPIRIT
ARCO...AMPM
CHevron...Texaco
etc...etc...they all have their "cheaper" brand...anyone ever actually sent off a little sample and had them tested?? or do you just watch the commercial and read the side of the pump?
I've been running cheap gas for years (always 91 octane)...no issues. A bottle of techron and some seafoam every so often will clean off far more carbon deposits than spending the extra on the gas itself imo.

lol, exactly...no explain why they sit a few blocks from each other(less sometimes) and one is more expensive?
Try and follow the trail and find out where your "cheap" gas stations actually get their gas from...it sure ain't a "TEXACO" truck bringing it in...its says Chevron on the side. I'll bet it stops at texaco and then drives straight over to Chevron...half at each.

Cheap gas? How much do you drive your car is the real question. If its your everyday driver I can see using cheaper gas and then an additive. But if its your weekend car or special occasion ride, how much are you really saving putting cheap gas in your car.
