My door, let me show it to you
Let me introduce my '01 vert. I just finished leather wrapping the passenger door. Guess which car the door latch is from...
EDIT: Since the thread is back from Hades, some newer pictures (and yes, the astray and cup holder covers are also leather):

Very nice! Did you wrap over the vinyl or was that removed first? As to the handle, is it an Acura handle? Looks similar to the one I had in my 02' TL Type S.

I'd like to have my door panels wrapped! You did a good job.

Now that is a nice wrap; looks much better than the others with all that stitching.

Thanks all for compliments.
The latch is actually from a Lexus IS300. It's very similar in form and function to the vette latch, and the installation was easy. I first tried a Toyota latch but it used cables and did not work out at all. Before leather, I just made an oval bezel to cover the big hole in the panel.
As for the stitching, first I thought I go completely without, but then it looked too plain. Stitching straight seams is so darn difficult that I used black thread around the center insert. It's not straight but it's hard to tell.
If you looked closely, I changed the shape of the panel with closed cell foam pieces. The original vinyl is mostly under there, except in some places where I had to trim it.
I bought a used panel to play with and the bottom part was actually black. I just SEM'd it to beige. Incidentally, Acura color was a closer match than GM...

I know, huh! To me the original handle was just fugly and cheap, and since I've never seen anyone swapping them I wanted to see how it'd look like. But I saved all the stock hardware and can go back if I change my mind. They work real smooth clickety click though!

I reshaped the whole thing when I painted and wrapped the bezel. When you pack the radio and AC panel with a minimal gap and make the astray flip cover a bit taller you don't miss the cross bars. Or maybe that's a case of diffrent strokes again
And I gots to get me a better camera. The leather has a real nice expensive lookin grain, but it don't show up in these cell phone photos.

Here's my take...
1. Really like the door panel, looks a lot nicer than a vendor on this forum which looks too
dizzy with the stitching.
2. Not really feeling the door handle, it's chrome and kind of generic import looking, does
not flow with our interior. I don't know why people complain about the stock one, it's
just ok...certainly better than the red strap currently on a Porsche Boxster.
3. I think i like the no cross bar of the bezel. I hate the stock truck Bose radio of the C5
but yours looks ok. I like the half wrap a lot, what finish is the bezel, piano black
gloss? Why didn't you continue with this look on the t/c panel?
4. Your shift boot, like mine, looks shot...time to swap that out for a new black one with
the contrasting stitch.

my next project is to do my door panels. I'm not shelling out 2G's for em so I figure between you tube videos and my mom, i'll figure out how to sew. All it costs is a little bit a supplies and some time in the garage. Shoot. I think you might be able to do this mod at the kitchen table watching TV. Modding your car in air conditioning FTW.
