Which C5's do you prefer? Covertibles,Coupe or FRC?
Hi All,
I have got my eye on a C5 convertible and I have never had a convertible before. It is a 2000, silver, manual 6 speed (I Get to keep my right hand busy), black top.
I would like a change and was just wondering if the top ever got damaged, how much and how easy are they to get replaced?
Which C5's do you prefer? Covertibles,Coupe or FRC?
Also what are the Convertibles pros and cons? obviously I,ve already taken into account vandelism, weather etc
Andy

Just my opinion, but if you can't put the top down, it isn't any fun at all!! We own two Verts, and wouldn't have it any other way. I think the FRC looks great too but couldn't stand to not have the top down when cruising.

I HAVE an FRC,,so I am biased that way,,,BUT I do have to admit the ALL have their charms for me. The FRC has it's own distinct look,,and you have something that is not common!! profile of a convertible,,and a trunk,,and the security of a hard top. I do like the targa of the coupes,,kinda best of both worlds. I also like "verts,,but here in the mid-west,,summers are often blistering hot and humid(we've had better part of a month now with heat indexes of 100-115,punctuated by serious storms)!! Winters are kind of rough sometimes,,,limiting top down time!! You can't really go wrong with any of them,,,as stated,,,they each have their own charms!!!The M6 ,,IMO,, is the only way to fly as well!!!

20 out of the 25 Vettes I have owned have been Converts! The last coupe I had was a 1984 just because I did not have a choice because they didn't make a convert.

All three of mine have been coupes - but someday I may go with an FRC. Not a big fan of the vert.

Vote for the coupe since I have one. But the verts are beautiful too.

Luggage space in the coupe disappears if you are somewhere and take the roof off and have to store the top where the Vert still has plenty of luggage space even with the top down.
I like the ability when we are traveling to put the top down if we are somewhere and the weather is nice. To me removing the roof on the coupe is more like the experience of a car with a sunroof and not even close to the top down experience of the verts.
The one huge advantage I see with the coupes it that they are a lot cheaper to buy but if the vert cost twice as much I would still buy it instead of a coupe.

Corvette started in 1953 as a convertible only - and it wasn't until the C2 introduction that there was a coupe. For those that say a coupe is the best of both worlds - it's a Corvette with a targa top, certainly not the same experience as a Corvette with no top.
The wind buffeting in a targa top coupe is far worse than the buffeting top down in a convertible. Convertible detractors talk about lack of storage space in a convertible, but it's a sportscar....not a pickup truck.
As far as the FRC - personally if there is no way to experience open air, then I'm not interested. In the FRC's defense however - it is the stiffest torsionally of the three body styles...approximately 12% stiffer. It makes the ideal track day car, though it is not the most aerodynamic of the three body styles....the targa coupe is.
I own two C5 convertibles, and I cannot imagine life without a Corvette convertible. I was reluctant at first, thinking that I wanted a targa coupe. But after 7 years of Corvette ownership, I wouldn't have it any other way!
